Definitely too stubborn, should go down the children root, used to love going to Happy Eater, Little chef was an even bigger treat because it was more expensive.

The prices in those roadside places are a joke

How can you lot agree with Heston though... the stuff he came up with was way to fancy for a roadside diner... Simple food that isnt soaked in oil would be a major improvement to start with surely

its all grease! - however, Hestons meals were "too posh" for little chef. Yes, they look nice, but £4.50 for scrambled egg and salmon flakes on a little posh toast aint what I would eat.

Cut out the grease, and the Olympic Brekky for £7.95 would be great. Its filling, but not exactly fatty. Poach the egg - dont fry, grill black pud, mushrooms, bacon etc and your onto something better than the current rubbish.

oh, btw http://www.littlechef.co.uk/menu.php for anyone who wants to see the menu

terrible thing to say but I can remember going there as a kid over 20 years ago! it was really horrible then have never been back in one since, They just look sooo yucky from the outside!

O.K Round 2 is on C4 now...

Any boss that uses the phrase "blue sky thinking" deserves to have his business go down the pan.

Its crazy.

They can't even cook basics??
Plus the manager is a right ****** :-)
#11
I just dont get why they picked a guy that is reknown for his gadgetry and poncy food to redisgn a roadside diner lol... just makes me laugh...
#12
Been watchin this for the last couple of nights, Heston is abit of an @rse to be honest. The managing director guy isnt much better. As people on here said, the melas are too posh for a roadside cafe. People go into those places looking for a filling meal that isn't going to cost them a fortune, nobody wants an oyster in a lancashire hotpot. Little Chef would have been 1000 times better gettin Gordon Ramsay in to revamp the place instead of some 'experimenta l' chef whos restuarnt serves an 18 course £125 dinner.

I think the boss guy is a right tool, it annoys me when these people get in people to help, then don't listen!!

Agree the little Chef bloke seemed an ****, however I really don't see Heston Blumenthal as a good fit for little chef. Doesn't take a genius to work out that little chef need to reduce their prices and improve the quality of their food. Mcdonalds would never win any culinary prizes but they rake in the cash!

Oh and am shocked at the lack of basic cooking ability from the so-called little chef "cooks"
#15
you cannot improve quality and reduce prices, he is trying to revive a great roadside place and is up against a large company that only sees the bottom line. Same old, same old story large companies are not interested in pleasing customers. Little Chef used to be a great place and the people work very hard. Don't knock anyone trying to give us great food and make all our roadside places fab again.

The director is not interested in what he has to say, he should listen.

lol, the nation is a bunch of slum underdogs and deserve to be served fried breakfasts from a kitchen that can't handle a pan or live without a microwave, just shows what a time warp Little Chef and the staff are living in. Scrambled Egg and salmon with a hint of earl grey tea is hardly too posh and you think that then you must be really really upset that Burberry are closing a factory. An actual traditional Lancashire Hot Pot with the original oyster added to heighten the richness of the meaty flavour, and the northerners didn't even know their own dishes, Christ! The best comments have to be the customers who complained the menu had no pictures...........................Little Chef deserves to go, as well the monkeys who eat there, good riddance to the carp food and the filth.

That sight of that "olympic breakfast" made me feel nautious, so much grease and fat. It makes me laugh that it's called an olympic breakfast:

"Faster, Higher, Stronger"? Fatter, deader, slower more like!

I agree Little Chef has to go, morbid obesity is on the increase, it's time to cut out the saturated fat, salt and sugar and enjoy tasty healthy food instead.

Since when has Popham, HAMPSHIRE been in the North of England. The people trying the dishes were ignorant Southerners.

Some interesting reply's to this thread.

My intention was not to create a north / south debate or indeed the health value's of there menu, all of which are points for discussion.

And indeed i do not totally agree with Heston's choices as the vast majority of Little Chef's customers would not appreciate it!

What i could not understand was the "head in the sand" attitude of the directors of Little Chef.

They have prime roadside locations and should be expanding with a positive attractive menu, but instead seem to be on a "road to no where" (pun intended)
#21
I'm a bit confused by it tbh, the director wanted some crazy food, hence employing Heston (who doesn't only cook 'weird' food!), when Heston showed him the menu with Hotpot containing Oyster and what is basically Tea smoked Salmon he said it wasn't radical enough. Yet when he went the next time and said Pie and chips, steak, Curry etc. etc. that was fine???

After some thought it seems to me that Channel 4 cashed in on the 'David Brent' character of Little Chef's CEO Ian Pegler and used every opportunity to watch himself hang with his ridiculous 'blue sky thinking' talk which actually ended up being the ceiling! In the end, albeit not quite, both the guys employed to bring about a change and prosperity to Little Chef were both ill suited IMO. Heston with a 1st class worlds best's restuarant and a gastro pub and Ian Pegler who brought about a change in Forte Post House's in the nineties. Heston business skills come from 1 pub and 1 restuarant not a UK chain, and Ian's food reviews seem to bench mark from his wife's cooking, refered to as Mrs Pegler! I can see why Gordon Ramsey wasn't invited to the party as he would have crucified Mr Pegler and the Popham Little Chef Staff unequivocally without remorse. A very mixed bag of ideas almost akin to the boil in the bag scrambled egg which was 3mins too long.......................

i dont think little chef customers are ready for snail porridge, they wernt ready for musli
#24
says it all really,

You guys are all so rude about people doing their jobs, have any of you ever tried to serve 85 breakfasts ??? they are doing a great job and there is nothing wrong with being proud of what you do. Why do we always knock everything? why not try a positive approach?? there are healthy choices on the menu, we live in an age of choice remember !!!!!

This was never a health and safety issue you would have to close half of the restaurants in England !! think you wanna find fault with everything. They are trying to make it a great place and will update all of them in time. What's wrong with that?
#28
The boss is a tool! Will be interesting to see what happens when they go back in three months. Seeing the staff raise their game and being proud of what they do was good. Those singing toilets would do my head in, but at least you wouldn't have to hear other people doing their stuff!! ;-)

Being pedantic I think Environmental health would be more interested in the cleanliness :p
