Hi, its repair or replace if under 1 year old, if they cant replace a refund should be offerred, according to their returns policy. Cheers

I had the same problem get a table knife just gentle try and price it under or around dvd drive you have to be very very very carefull otherwise you will be in trouble . press the eject button several times while doing this with the knife let me know how you get on be CAREFUL.

I had a faulty disc drive the other week (got my money back at my local game shop).

I would say just ask for a replacement. Something like rrod (red lights) they may try to argue (however wrongly) is Microsofts issue, but a non working dvd drive is a faulty unit and should be replaced.

Here is a microsoft solution for removing a disc if the drive isnt working:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906935/

There is also one on there for use if you suspect a disc is stuck inside, but it doesnt sound like its the case with your console.

If your drive is faulty ring up Argos and tell them its been playing up for a while on and off but now its completely inoperable. Tell them you have the receipt (box would be helpful too) and lay it on about your son being upset etc and they may show a bit of compassion and tell you to take it back for a new one. Its within your rights to take it back to the shop anyway, regarless of the 28 day rule, as you make a contract with them to supply you with goods that was fit for purpose and last for a 'reasonable' lifespan.

Edit p.s. I would also tell them you didnt discover the fault until 2 months after purchase as it was a Xmas prezzie

thanks all,
I am gonna box it up and take back to argos and ask for a replacement tomorrow, I dont want to have a go myself at fixing as knowing my luck i will only make matters worse:roll:
Although it was purchased late last year it has only been played with since xmas day as it was a gift.

And definitely dont do this! You should only take a knife (or match) to a PS3

follow up,

OH took it back to Argos and allowed them to fob him off by giving him microsoft telephone number, they are sending a courier out to fetch it sometime this week.
Any ideas how long they are likely to have it in for repair??
