  Cheers. Those islabikes sure hold their value. Will look out for a deal on the blasts, not paying full price for a Halfords bike.

  There's a subject going cheap locally, good as new cond for £100, possibly knock down a bit off that.

  13.06kg (28.73lbs) is quite heavy for a BMX...my lad has a wethepeople trust which is only 10.5kg, it was expensive for a 10 year old, but my logic was that they don't grow out of BMX's in the same way they do MTB's. If it's for just riding around on and he isn't interested in doing stunts and tricks then weight isn't overly important.
  
  If the subject is in good condition then it's not a bad deal at a £100 or less in good nick.

  much better than the mongoose if it's in good condition and plenty of street cred to boot, also look at mafiabikes as they are becoming quite popular

  Much appreciated Slam. I've got a better idea of what to look out for now.
  
  He will be happy with one of those toys r us efforts but I know he'd get a better ride out of a lighter better quality bike. It'll be the bike he talks about when he's older so I'll do the future him a favour and make it half decent.
