Anyway, I heard from somewhere that CoD Black ops is causing damage to the bluray drive of some ps3's; is this true? it's only cos i notice that my ps3 does make weird noises when playing the game and it has frozen my console at least 4 times (since release week), requiring total manual shut down. Thats not to say its unplayable (except for the stupid servers!) and i dont notice it once in the game, only sometimes when its quiet. My PS3 is the 120gb slim one so i doubt it could be the YLOD problem, plus it doesnt happen to any of my other games, well the console obviously makes noises when everything is quiet but it just seem like BO is worse, plus it cause it to freeze.

How would it damage it?

I have no idea, maybe causes damage to the lasers or something? I dont really know, but it doesnt sound that good

i doubt it to be honest, why would it, the disc will be the same as all the other games so no reason for it too..

Cod has never crashed for me, the worst game i have had for crashing is fallout 3 goty, freezes, slows down everything

I dont think it'll have any lasting damage but this game is notorious for crashes and bugs. Bad programming imo.

How can a disc damage the player? :/

doubt it will damage the drive mate but i know exactly your problem. its it at the loading screen? Waiting for other players by any chance? mine does the same i can damage the hard drive if its switched off when reading or copying something to the hard drive it could evedently corrupt it

Its an old wives tale, dates back to the 1850's.

It's not beyond the realm of possibilities that they used a different disc in manufacturing or the data i slaid out differently on it to cause more stress on laser.

wether its true or not its a good enough excuse to try and stop my boyfriend playing on his all the time! :) doubt he will believe me tho x

This was the so called problem with PS3's when COD 2 Modern warfare had come out.
My guess is that because of how many people play these games in question, then of course when people state they where a playing a game & then the Blu ray packed in & people ask what game, they say this game more often than any other..............here comes the conspiracy.

Just my 2p thought.

CoD games do hammer the Bluray because they stream all the textures etc from the disk but this shouldn't kill the drives.

CoD is also very buggy especially online as I have had it hang the PS3 atleast like 10 times during playing.

I wouldn't really worry about it killing the drive as it's more likely the people on the net are in the minority that actually had a knackered drive anyway.

I'd assume both the 360 and PS3 stream practically all textures given the extremely limited RAM available. Is there an option to install? That would remove stress on the drive.
