black pudding safe for a baby?

i say no. Someone else clearly thought otherwise and fed it to my 5 month old daughter. And i can't find anything on google to ease my mind.
My girlfriend is visiting her family and she text me to tell me my little girl was eating a fryup. i mean, have a word, am i supposed to be impressed with that?
i was actually quite disgusted. Tomotoes and mushrooms i can deal with if they are fresh and not tinned. but blackpudding......all i can think of is all that blood and salt.

@OP, guess no one can say for certain alas but not sure i'd be willing to feed a 5 month old black pudding and i do eat the stuff myself :?

my god thats bad , loads of salt and fat not to mention babys stomachs arnt developed for that kind of food , i wouldnt worry 2 much as it probs wont hurt , but i wouldnet let it happen again x

I wouldn't worry too much - the flavours and the seasoning alone would be too much for the babys palette to accept, and she would probably reject it. As a one off (although you obviously know your G/F shouldn't have let it happen) the worst that will probably happen, is that your baby will have the most disgusting nappies for a day or so, or she will throw it back up - hopefully over the people who fed it to her.
When i was out of my eyesight, my SIL knocked a bit of dilute red wine down my (then 5 month old) daughters neck - and i was lucky...while she was still sitting on her lap, my baby barffed all over her!!!

I'm with Jelli on this one don't worry to much but I wouldn't give it to her again. IMO the Iron in the black pudding may make her constipated for a few days. TBH there is a ton of research that shows it is better for the child to hold off weaning compleatly untill after 6 months now. I have to confess I didn't so this definatly isn't a preaching post. But if I were you I would make sure she down't have it again untill she can ask for it herself.

yep i think it can be given once in like a few months or month but wouldnt give it like weekly or everyday.

well thanks peeps. She has been eating baby jars and tins, rusks etc quite happily since 4 months, which i have been comfortable with. and when teeth appear she will be given fresh fruit and veg to chew on.
I think i'm gonna let mum handle the next few nappies :)

This is gonna make me sound like a right nag...but you might do better to avoid letting her 'chew' on fruit, even though they are natural sugars, veg sticks might be better and give the fruit as a puree with meal....(er ...i'll go now.... )

my 2 little girls loved freash fruit and veg to chew on it really helped her teeth to come through x

I think its probably got a high salt content and quite fatty.
I'm vegetarian, but I was on the understanding that from 4 mths you start introducing baby rice, veg and fruit puree and by around 6mths you start with meat, although some baby foods from 4mths contain meat like the jars or dried mix. I don't get it really whats in some of the baby foods,Hipp Organic used to have a Peach & Honey dessert in a jar, don't know if they still do as my 1st I only bought jar stuff occasionly and my 2nd she wouldn't touch anything in a jar at all. But if you look at a jar of honey and other info sources it says not to give a baby under 12 mths honey.

A bit early, but no real danger. People are sooo particular nowadays. If this was say the 50's no-one would bat an eyelid. No harm will come of it.

Don't worry bout it love - hey I know plenty of people who talk like that I they would be insulted if they were told they were being offensive! You just cannae win!

OP - I would agree with the most posts, not an ideal weaning food, but certainly no real harm - the nappies willbe a cracking colour though! Enjoy!

If you're going to give a baby a banana make sure you get someone else to change the nappies for a while! (Have you heard of the expression "exploding nappy"?:giggle: )
#27
I think you more have to worry about her choking on the stuff? About 6-7 months minimum before I gave my little ones anything solid to chew on. Your totally right about too much salt but a one off won't kill her.

BTW cut grapes in half seemingly grapes and burst balloons are top choking hazards in little ones!

Don't concern yourself as baby's don't have the same childish view of food most adults pick but give things like black pudding little and not often
and ask your gf about it and tell her your concerns don't act like a child by asking on here

Random bump!!
This "baby" will now be 5 years old... :|

is it safe to give a 5 year old black pudding?

Definitely not, it could be fatal... oO

I've heard it makes you clever. Have you had some? ;)

Ewwwwww... No way... Yuk!! :{

So how do you explain your sudden emergence as a contender for the quiz prize? :p

Because I'm awesome. :)
