Hi been offered this smartphone brand new in violet colour for £50. Thinking of buying it for my 15 year old son for his 16th birthday.
Would a man have this colour.
Person selling has just had it as a contract phone but is a pensioner and can't use it.
What do you think ??

Not sure a 16 year old lad would be too keen on a violet phone.

Regardless of Colour - you need a Blackberry Tariff to get any real use from the phone!

Nah you don't! I've had my 8900 Curve for 9 months without a blackberry tariff and I use a third party app for msn chat, I use google mail (my email is copied from another server and forwarded to my google mail and thus to my blackberry) to receive my emails which integrates well into the blackberry with full alerts etc, I can use the internet as normal, the only thing I really can't use is the BB PIN chat...no major loss there.

How do you do the email diversion and integrate it with the BB... I have the BB add on with my priceplan, however I do not really use the PIN thing, so its a slight waste of £5 a mth but need my emails!

Well download google mail app from the google website from your phone. Then go to your email provider and in the options you should be able to forward it, I have mine set to forward but leave on server. That way when I'm at the PC I can still use the normal provider, but it also copies it all to my blackberry. Everything I receive an email I have set it to vibrate and give out a beep and it shows on screen with a little symbol for a new email.

A week after I got my phone they rung me up saying I needed to take out the BB add on or send the phone back. I said my contract was as agreed and already renewed and thus legally bound. They put me through to a supervisor who wasn't sure so put me through to his supervisor and when I said I had already agreed on a upgraded price plan without the BB add on she said they shouldnt have let me, and their policy now is they wont sell them without the add on. But she had to back down over me sending it back or having the add on as I was already in contract on those terms agreed. :-D
They said it was because you cant use the phone without it, and I said well I've been using it just fine.

Thats great advice - am trying it as I type! 1 question... When you say "Then go to your email provider and in the options you should be able to forward it, I have mine set to forward but leave on server." where am I supposed to be forwarding it to... A little confused?

For example on my email provider i log in as usual click options goto 'forwarding/pop/imap' and then click 'Forward a copy of incoming mail to [email protected]">[email protected]'.

So you need to download the google mail app and then create an account to use on googlemail (guessing that is not your provider) and then on your normal provider you are basically telling them to copy all email when received to the googlemail account.

My email account IS a Googlemail account... So do I log into to Gmail on my laptop and type my gmail address in the 'forward' tab? I've activated the alerts etc, but it's not notifying me when I have a new email :-(.

no need to forward then, just set up on your blackberry as the same account. That should work fine.

That's a lot of effort to bypass the BB services cost  Naughty though.

With regards to the violet colour being suitable for a 15 year old lad:

I really don't think so. However if your hands are trained, you can buy a black housing kit off eBay, for example Item number 270461421972, and then follow this video on how to change the housing.

I just did this with my 8520, so PM if you do decide to do this, and run into problems :)
