Hey this should be quick. My younger sister has a orange contract. It has 500mb data on it. She told me she wants to get a blackberry phone at Christmas. Would her internet be of any use or would she have to have BIS to make any use of Internet services on the blackberry? I've never understood it so always avoided blackberry phones! Thanks guys.

you need BIS for internet on Blackberry

Orange will charge you an extra £10 for blackberry 'services'. The BB fad is dying out, don't get her stuck to one for 18-24 months.

Don't think the fad is dying out, more and more people I know are getting BB's!

For some of us it was never a fad, just solid business performance.

Its actually £5, if you have a lil talk to them on the customer service
some of the nice assistants actually let you off and add it at good will...
or probs replace the 500mb with BIS (because that includes 500mb too)

Just to make it clear to Her, basically no BIS, no Internet except for wifi?
#8
But can she use facebook apps? Browse wap sites? She doesn't care about bbm or bb email. Just wants to use some apps and the browser.

Nope facebook app will need BIS.

Nope all that has to be done through BIS.

No, this is not true, the Internet still work normal, just you can't use those Blackberry services e.g: Messenger

Internet surfing is absolutely fine on normal Wifi data usage.

Was my bad, you can access the net via wifi but won't have access to apps that require BIS services.

Coz shes a teen and they just go for trends instead of practicality now and again. Basically I'm trying to tell her practically her contract won't get much use from a blackberry. She says the Nokia e71 is too heavy which seems stupid because I think its one of the most solidly built phones and at least she can use Internet etc! She wants a qwerty but I'll tell her once again a Blackberry is a waste without bis. Can get e71 phones comfortably under £100 on eBay afterall. Makes damn sense!
