Blackpool Tips and Treats?

Hey,

I'm off to Blackpool on Monday for the day (well, arriving nearby late Sunday Night and spending Monday there). The person I'm taking hasn't been before, and they need to see it at least once. I quite like it, I like the tackyness. However, I just thought I'd try and tap into the knowledge of the people on here and ask where would you go and the best ways of doing things!

We want to go in the Tower, is there cheaper ways of entry? Booking appears to be reduced by paying online, but is there any better ways? We'd like to pop into the Pleasure Beach, but neither of us are into lots of big rides but we'd like the oppotunity to ride a few of the lesser evil rides. Is it just better to buy the tickets at the time for this? Is there any other sights and sounds you'd go and see?

Lets keep this on topic... =)

I just wondered if there were any in advance that I could sort out. I like planning things in advance and having it all sorted :)

Would you recommend any particular website that lists the shows. Seem to be visiting lots of front pages of affiliate sites who are sending me all over the place. Disappointed with Pleasure Beach Show Line up, a comedian or something like that would be nice :)

If you are going to the tower make sure you see the circus show as it is included in the entrance fee. Other places worth going to are the Zoo, Doctor Who Museum (if you like Dr Who!) and the Sea Life Centre (expensive without discount vouchers).

Definetly. Already found the show times - 2.30pm. We'll be sat there ready and waiting :)

Buying the tower tickets doesn't really work out cheaper online, as Blackpool Live adds a booking fee which brings it to exactly the sameprice!!

For £24.50 you can get entry to the Tower & Circus, the waxworks and the sealife centre. You can buy these round the back of the Tower in the Blackpool Tower Ticket & Information office, which is opposite Primark/HMV. You save about £11 on the individual ticket prices.

This is good, because once in the tower you can enter/leave as much as you want... so you could go to the other two attractions between stuff at the tower (they're only a couple of minutes away from each other at the most).

Also, very important... when you get to the tower CHECK THAT THE TOWER TOP RIDE IS RUNNING. They close it if it's a little tiny bit too windy, so make sure it's open.

When you arrive at the tower you should go in the tower top ride first, incase they close it later on. There's a post box up there. Don't forget to send a postcard to yourself and your friends from the top, as you get a special postmark on it saying "posted from the top of blackpool tower".

After you've been up there, take a look at the dinosaur 3D cinema (it's very tacky :-D ) and the "dinosaur walk", which is slightly disappointing since they ripped out the "ride", to be honest.

Then, head downstairs and take a look at the aquarium.

Then make sure you've got a UV stamp on your hand and head out to the sealife centre or the waxworks. It'll take you around an hour to get around either.

Then go back to the tower for the circus (you get the time and tickets when you enter and it's included in the price).

After the circus, finish up at the other attraction you've not been to.

The pleasure beach is a fair way form the other three attractions, orf course, so if you decide to visit then go by tram. You can buy tickets for individual rides there.

If you fancy watching a show in the evening, I recommend Hot Ice at the pleasure beach, which is on at 7.30pm. It's a good show, if you don't mind spending the money on it...

ha blackpoo did you mean to call it that

Maybe cheaper to buy separately then!! :) Do the waxworks for a fiver between the tower top ride and the circus, and do sealife after coming out of the circus.

That shark tunnel at sealife is one of the most brilliant places on earth...

The big wheel on the central pier is worth a punt. It's amazing seeing the blackpool coastline from out at sea!! :)

i might go on the sunday for the Aero GP (Grand Prix) looks ok for the kids to watch
For the first time ever in the UK, Aero GP is cutting-edge motor sport - with an exciting new twist for the first time ever in the UK. Combining the speed and adrenaline of F1 racing, but instead skilled pilots from all over the World manipulate high-performance airplanes around a tight circuit at near ground level, in this ultimate battle for air supremacy. Forget anything you've ever seen at an air show, this is a super competitive world series that pushes elite pilots and their aircraft to the limit, truly adding a third dimension to sport. Racing faster than any race car - but in the same amount of space and while pulling 10Gs - makes Aero GP the ultimate motor sport.

I'll be there no doubt. It does look great!! :-D

It's also on the Saturday, and on the Friday night there's a display by the parachute team at 10pm (using glowsticks and torches) and a big fireworks display at 10.30pm to celebrate veteran's day.

On the down side, Camilla Parker-Bowles will be there... :?

working nights friday and saturday so sunday is my only option as for Camilla Parker-Bowles, the kids are to old for donkey rides

2 x Tower Tickets via Ticketmaster = £23.75 (box office collection). On the door it would be £27.90. 2 x Sea Life = £10.50! Not really interested in the waxworks... Bargainous!

Anyone know what time the Sea Life Centre is open until? I can't see us being in Blackpool early, probably around 11-12. Couple of hours to have a wonder around and some lunch and then we're in to the Tower for the show. Doesn't really give us alot of time to see the sights, but if Sea Life is open till quite late it would give us a good option...

Parking - where do I park?!!? Paid quite a bit last time. And then, moved the car and got a parking ticket (but I appealed and got the money back). I'll start adding some rep to the thread, all been very helpful :)

North Pier is free after 5.30pm (usually 50p otherwise). It's close to the tower and sealife, which is handy.

The other piers are free anyway, but this one has pretty much nothing on it so there's some oppertunity for good photos with the tower and Blackpool shoreline in the background.

The wobbly boards also a good substitue for a white knuckle ride at the pleasure beach!! Haha.

is marton mere good? we are going there in oct

where are the best places to visit with children 13,11,5,3 and 1 please?

Thought I'd bump this post back to the top!

Going back next weekend with a different set of friends. Alot more for a boozy night out and a tacky weekend. The "Bouncers" TV show on ITV last night wasn't a great example of Blackpool at night though

Anyway, going back so looking for all the vouchers and ways to do it etc. Last time I went, we booked in advance for the Tower to get it for £11pp (although it's now £14 as it's peak season). I parked in a Hotel at the back of the big council car park which is behind the Sea Life Centre. The Hotel has signs up offering all day parking for £5 which was much better than the Council rates and you get to be in the middle of Blackpool instead of the remote side streets (I'm too car proud to park my car on a side street!).

So ... if you have anymore tips or tricks or vouchers I'm sure others or myself could make good use of them =)

You should go to 'Rock candy kingdom' to see rock being made. Free to enter (it is just a small shop afterall) and you get free hot samples of rock. mmmmmm.... It is situated opposite the central pier.

THANKS SO SO SO SO SO MUCH!

I went to this as a kid, and last time I went I looked at the back of every shop to see if I could see where it was being made. Just thought that shop had closed!
