All flights at London City Airport have been disrupted after protesters gained access to the runway.
The Met Police said it was called to the site at about 05:40 BST after nine protestors "locked themselves together" on the runway.
The Black Lives Matter UK movement has confirmed to the BBC it is responsible for the protest.
The airport said inbound flights were being diverted and it hoped to "resume operations as soon as possible".
Black Lives Matter UK tweeted: "Activists in support of BLMUK #Shutdown London City Airport to protest the UK's environmental impact on black people."

Getting ridiculous now. Can the police bring charges against this organization of troublemakers ?

None of them look black ??
Btw, how did they get to the runway ? Are our airports that insecure?
Why are they protesting about economic migrants in the Mediterranean? And, not just blacks, anyone without legal immigration status gets removed.
UK's environmental impact on blacks - wtf ?

Their statements are bizzare to say the least.

I'm not sure what a African-American protest group has anything to do with Libyans/Syrians et al dieing in the Mediterranean Sea. Also, what on earth does a movement targeting American Police Force have to do with the UK's response to the Syrian Crisis?

As a blackman who is happy with his life here I find this kind of activity very confusing and annoying.

The black issues in the USA and maybe elsewhere are totally different from here. Such silliness, the British public never really take much favour with protests, riots, long term strikes etc.

Perhaps, they all got off a flight and rather than head to the terminal building, they ran to the runway ? Flights at City airport use stairs rather than connecting airbridges

Just land the planes on them. They won't do it again.

How dare you presume to disagree with these brave allies just because of the colour of your skin? You have clearly been brainwashed by the colonial illuminati military-industrial complex and are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. I think it's better that you let these white protesters speak on your behalf, it's OK some of them might identify as black like that Rachel Dolezal woman.

Apparently climate change is a racist crisis. The BLM protest at London City airport makes perfect sense.

I can't even. An illegal protest makes almost zero sense for a start.

It is comforting to know that the only person they could find to say it makes sense is one of the organisers.

BLM is a movement where its supporters are all about causing chaos, promoting racism and terrorism. So, now, they're not even taken seriously anymore as they've shown their true colours.

runway closed for 6 hours and 20-30 police stand around doing sod all . Just drag them off, arrest them and bang them up. Oh, and stop their benefit payments for a few months too!

Yeah, I was wondering why it took so long. If I was in charge I'd have got in enough police to carry the lot of them, tripod and all to a remote corner of the airport and left them there, no need to arrest them as long as you search them to make sure they've thrown away the keys to their own locks.

'climate change kills Black people disproportionately in the UK' - I had to check it wasn't the 1st of April.

A black person speaking on behalf of BLM said if the protestors had been black they would have been shot by security services.

I think we have some law that says that can be classed as an assault and then the Met would have to pay compensation to these people.
