Blooming Washing Machine!!!

Day one off Saxo_appeal being back offshore and the blooming washing machine packs up :( the handle was half broke when we moved in. Tonight it snapped clean off! I have text the landlord and they have just text back saying we were just gonna dump it but as we didn't have one they left it.

Does this mean they are gonna leave me in the lurch with a buggered up washing machine and my 12 month old baby?! We all know how much clothes babies go through!!

Do I have rights?? I mean even if I buy a new one surely it should be up the landlords to remove the old one. Only thing it the landlord is a friends partner and don't wanna sound rude. I shouldn't have to pay for the removal of the old one.

So confused :(

If its included in the lease then they should fix it. If it isn't and it was just there as a favour (for want of a better word) then its up to you to get a new one (buy or just rent one like we do)

I would expect everything that was provided when I took out the lease to be functional throughout the time I was renting the place.
I remember a thread similar to this ages ago, maybe someone with good skills could dig it out for you.

Could pull my hair out. Saxo was offshore when we were moving to so did it all on my own :( when we were in the last house the landlady sorted everything. Even when I moved in the place was clorty had to clean house from top to bottom. Absolutely ridiculous!!!

1. Round here a washing machine left outside the house soon disappears.

2. Leave it in a corner of the back garden

3. The delivery people often take old machines away anyway.

Yeah I guess the delivery folk would but there is usually a surcharge for doin it. So annoyed. Thought a friend would be a bit more bloody understanding. So peeved!!

Under what ever eu regulation it is the company supplying the new washing machine are obliged to take the old one away

comet charge £10 i think to take the old one away but they usually just discount the wm you are buying for £10.

I gave them my old fridge last time as supposedly no one takes it away due to the gas in the fridge.

washing machines on the other hand - due to the scrap metal - it will go in a day or two if left outside on the pavement

As landlords, we rent our properties totally unfurnished for this very reason. If a previous tenant leaves anything our agent makes it very clear to the next tenant that those items are not included in the rent and that if they would like to keep them in the property - they are more than welcome. If they don't want them, we will happily dispose of it, however it they choose to keep it and the item becomes defective maintainance/disposal is up to them.
Your landlord should have made it perfectly clear in the terms of the lease about this (doesn't sound like he did), but if he won't budge on maintainance or replacement - maybe at least he will meet you half way and take the old machine to the tip? Is the whole machine goosed - or is it a part you could get replaced rather than a new machine maybe?

Would need a brand new door put on I recon. Had a look at when the machine came out. It's bout ten years old and all reviews on it are crap :(

You can ring your local council who usually dont charge to pick things up (i think its up to 3 or items)
If you have some spare cash there is a decent washer Link Or tescos have the same on for £180 (clubcard points)
