...My son will be 13 next week and would like a new BMX. I've seen this site http://www.bikes2udirect.com There are some Raleigh's, I know that name, and some Rooster's, which I've never heard of. Are the bikes decent or just cheapy ones. Son really wants a Mongoose but they're quit a lot. Any help appreciated :)

He only goes over the common...up and down the dips. Not a serious rider...is it worth it? Have you heard of Rooster bikes?

halfords are doing diamondback pretty cheap, mongoose are a american brand bmx from the 80's, very expensive, try and get second hand, just checked ebay and there are loads on there cheap

totally agree-our 16 year old is a serious bmxer-competitions etc,and is at the bmx park all his spare time-its a great hobby, but if your son wants to get into bmxing as a sport/hobby-you need to buy a PROPER bmx bike-raleighs are NOT-they are just "bmx style" bikes but wont stand up to any punishment from stunts/ramps etc. Its a considered purchase I know, and once they start to get serious there are all sorts of expensive customisations they will want, but raleigh dont make REAL bmx bikes-just cos it looks like a bmx, doesnt mean it is(if that makes sense)

i wouldn't waste your money on something that's the cheapest as your son would probably put it to the test and you'd want it to last a bit. As above, Diamondbacks and Mongoose are brands that have been around for years - but always worth checking out second-hand/ebay as you should be able to pick up a decent bike for not a lot of money.
Our 13 year old has been riding around on a Reebok BMX for the last couple of years and that's seen a fair amount of punishment, but was relatively cheap at the time.

I bought a Rooster bmx bike for my son at Christmas, looks well and build quality good.
He doesn't go to any bmx tracks so can't comment if any good for that.

If you have a local Wilco/Motosave they sell them there.

Do not waste your money on a "proper" BMX yet.
If he takes a proper interest in it, then buy one then.

I would recommend if he doesnt mind about the year model going for a 2009 or 2010, you get alot more for your money as they are reduced and then can get a brand that is decent and will not break as soon as he tries to do anything
