Boiled eggs - How do you eat yours!?

Just wondering if any of you have the 'Perfect' way of doing boiled eggs?

I myself, like the yolk runny, but with the white cooked through solid.

I've just made some by boiling for 2 mins. Turn off the heat and cover for a further 2 mins. (Probably could do with a further 1 minute and the white was a but 'spunky')

So, whats your method?

I was just going to say that ! also depends on the size of the egg, i always do large eggs for 3 1/2 mins take out of pan straight away and bask the top slice open and 9/10 times perfect for dipping ya soldiers into !:D

I take it you dont store your eggs in the fridge then to get them perfect in only 3 mins.

only if you add salt

Scrambled for me - Butter in non stick, just chuck the eggs in, salt and pepper to taste and stir. Turn off the heat just before all the runnyness goes.
#9
Boiling eggs though. I chuck them in cold water, put the pan on the stove. and then when it boils, I time it 3 mins for runny, 5 for super hard.

I like mine boiled eggs hard like golf balls, So i simmer them for 20 minutes as i usually go and do something else while they are cooking.
Same for fried eggs (Not 20 minutes though), i have to have no runny stuff.

Depends on egg size, egg freshness and to a degree altitude, week old eggs are better than fresh for hard boiling as the shell peels off better.

Some of our eggs can take almost 5 minutes to soft boil though due to size they are often 100g+ and wouldnt even fit into egg boxes and would be classed as too large for retail.

Not bad at a cost of £1.50-£2 (depending on outdoor temps the hens eat more when its cold) for 3 dozen

To put it into perspective

New Size Weight

Very Large 73g +over

Large 63 - 73g

Medium 53 - 63g

Small 53g +under

Quite into poached eggs at the minute though done in the microwave, takes 1 1/2 minutes to do four.

Anyone with space it is worth getting hens as they are fairly low maintenance and make great pets, they are also friendly and will come to you for affection.

eggs dont need to be refridgerated, in fact they keep better out of the fridge.

in summer they do if temp is above 22 C

Its debatable whether they need to be refridgerated below this temperature

e.g.

Refrigerate eggs at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or less when they are received. Keep eggs under refrigeration until used.

Storing eggs in the refrigerator will slow down the eggs' aging process considerably but not indefinitely.

each to their own I guess

I like them well cooked.

So cold water, stick the eggs in straight away, I boil them at medium heat as I find shell will basically fall off when you start to peel them and I leave them on between 5 - 10 minutes, if I think they are ready (normally when one starts to crack) I stab each one with a knife, it makes the peel even easier to come off and job done.

Used to eat 7 egg whites + 2 yolks a day (and had to make some for my family also) so I had to get my technique perfect for how I like em.

3 mins on the boil then run them under cold water to stop them cooking further, nowt like a snotty egg.

what a waste of good eggs, boiled eggs should be soft so you can dip your soldiers in them, I bet you like well done steaks too instead of medium rare ?

All my soldiers died and went to eggy heaven where they can dip into as many runny eggs as they like, so i can't do it that way.

Nah i prefer biting the cows while they are still standing in the fields.
Gives it a more leathery taste.

Well I love boiled eggs well cooked, but I have fried eggs runny and steak rare or raw.

Don't see the big deal with a runny boiled egg, if you want it runny cook a fried egg, period.
