Booked a hotel via hotels.com

Hi

Booked a hotel via hotels.com late friday night.

Booked via a debit card.

Then my partner went into a shop and the card was declined, then went into the bank and they said 2 amounts of the same amount the hotel cost had gone out of her account, and the account was in the negative.

The woman in the bank said: This is a common thing with hotels, when you book online, that they take that amount of money and hold it, and release it once the other money has gone through?

She also said that it normally gets released in 24 hours.

Surely that cannot be allowed?

So since then, i have range the company and said what is going on? They only see 1 booking on their system.

Is this a common thing?

As atm, she has no money at all to do anything.

Your thoughts please.

We paid hotels.com when we booked then months later when we stayed the hotel charged us again. They said the card details they took on arrival were only for 'extras' but when they didnt get their money from hotels.com, they took it from my card. I complained and transatlantic phonecalls ensued and it finally got refunded. Made me a bit wary though.

Considering we havent even stayed yet?

Thanks though.

Sounds like it might be an authorisation. This is basically where the company request the money but when they actually take the charge, it's not recognised as being the same as what the authorisation was originally for. It means that the money then comes out of your account fine but the authorisation hangs on for 1-10 days, unless your bank removes it for you. The authorisation money is still effectively in your account but reduces your available balance.

Hi

I went into the bank with my partner today.

And got the statement

Basically they have done a visa authorisation for the amount on the 2nd for hotels.com

but then done a card purchase for the amount on the 4th. for a different company name for the same amount..

But still have the visa authorisation for the 1st one.

So after raging via the telephone and scanned a copy of the bank statement itself, we are still no further to this.

And my partner still has no money.

They said it could take 7-10days.. this is no use to me, as we cannot wait that long..

The bank cannot do anything, they have helped no end mind..
