Or if you think your really good, try to design one for www.csszengarden.com

i guess you're working mainly in Flash and CSS for the code then for that site.

Thanks for that. I would love to add all sorts of flash and other fancy stuff but dont know how. :)

I do also agree that alot of sites with to much flash and stuff all over the place is just messy and then gets in the way of the content.

sorry if i came across a bit rude, i also agree you need synergy but however web design is now focused around web 2.0 and with the amount of similar sites out there you need a hook.

I agree and no not rude just to the point lol.

What would you recomend as the hook to pull the people to the site?

i disagree, becos most sites are taking in web 2.0 doesnt mean all sites need 2. Look at google for an instance, some sites work by being simple

although everyone needs constructive critiscism for their work...... if people were to critiscise mine, i would ask for input to improve

and io have 3 webpages currently up
www.mytestpages.co.uk <-- money making advice
www.console-modder.co.uk www.mytestpages.co.uk/ratemysite >-- this site is my version of slicethepie but its not been updated in a while cos my web server is currently down

all very good, just one critiscism

on the 3rd one on the contact page , remove the email address (can be picked up by scammers robots (programs that trawl websites to look for info to extract)

replace the email address with an image on the email address e.g; write the email address in microsoft paint, save the image as email.bmp then upload the image

Out of interest, how many people do web design/development as a full time profession? and what are your main skills/tools/languages?

http://www.forumforfootball.com
http://footballtshirts.spreadshirt.net
http://www.mypub.org.uk/
http://pbsentryskin.proboards78.com/index.cgi

Some sites I've built, some bits okay, some not so. The last is just a preview, the actual design is used on the support forums at proboards.com

Keep em coming, I love having a nose around :-D

lol, thats my 2nd least favourite site I've ever worked on.

I use Photoshop and notepad, Dreamweaver if I have to. Bits in Illustrator and flash depending on what I'm doing.

many people have web design as a full time profession, there are a lot of companies that freelance out their staff for projects. I have been offered a job doing the web site for a major car manufacturer :-D there is a lot of money in web design but its based on what you know

i use notepad to write all my code, i don't use no programs as they all add their own code to the pages which will not make the grade

nice pages, good start there

im slowly learning PSP (paint shop pro) to do my own graphics,)

my skills are html coding, css coding, php, javascript, some python (very little really) xml, xhtml & all my pages are 100% w3c stnadard

Yeah I know what you mean with programs which add irrelevant code, I worked for a company who insisted on using this freeware CMS system with a rubbish wysiwyg editor which employees used to update the site (they are a wholesaler who supply all the high streets biggest stores so it was constantly being updated) and the CMS defined EVERYTHING in the code, every line of text such as specifying font size, weight, colo(u)r, family etc, was absolute hell as it would generate ridiculous amounts of code when ever anyone used the editor.

back end development really isn't my thing to be honest, proficient in xhtml, html, css, javascript, actionscript, lingo etc but can't stand things like php, drives my crazy :D

tbh, i use WYSIWYG software, basically, because i do not use/know "code/programming"

How much more professional do websites look if using code etc rather than the likes of FP, webpage maker etc? I feel the www.gentlehands.co.uk is simple, informative, but could so "something else!!?"

doing your own code means it passes w3c validation, it looks cleaner and is easier to understand if you come back to the code or someone else looks at your code

w3c is the standards council for html, xml, css xhtml coding......

check your site @ http://validator.w3.org/

basically it means your site displays correctly in all the different web browsers

which site am i looking at ?
#38
And us web developers pride ourselves on validated coding, w3 even provide badges :-D
#39
By the way, who uses the web developer toolbar for firefox? I'd probably put that up there with the most important tools I use :w00t:
