Where I'm working at the moment the boss is a total bully

hes just had a screaming session at one of my collegues for being 5 mins late and she is sat in tears cos it was a totally personal attack

he always uses his position of power to bully his staff and knows we just cant walk out cos we all have various responsibilities. hes been making snide remarks aimed at me all morning

does anybody know of any sites that list rights that employees have jsut so I know where I stand on a few points

thanks

I take it there is no Union there?

All of you should start logging everything down, dates times etc.

Maybe even secretly record one of his episodes.

#4
get someone to do him in after work, i would
#5
set up a covert camera and record his antics before either going above him or going to citizens advice.
#6
MP3 voice recorder. :)
#8
Citizens Advice would be a great place to start
#9
Document everything, make notes of conversations, times etc. Write them up at home and email to a friend outside of work to use as evidence with a list of his inappropriate conduct. Bottom line is always your word against his, but having a written record will help you when you can present the documentation to the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau)

Don't ever stoop to his level always be civil and keep your voice level 'normal' the one who is raising it is the one who is out of control. He seems to get off on his authority and only feels the false sense of power when he is belittling others.

He needs help. Hope he seeks the right kind soon and you and your other colleagues have a much improved working atmosphere.

From one who has been there and not yet out of the woods!

This makes my blood boil.. bully boy tactics.. he needs a dose of his own medicine.. i know some of you would say 2 wrongs dont make a right but i know personally how this sort of thing affects people. Poor girl.. put an arm round her and let her know everyone is behind her. Might be a good idea for you all to turn up late tomorrow.. see how he handles that.

stunner him
#12
sounds like a sick guy

its a small firm with him as the main boss. if we all turned up late tomorrow he would sack us all - seriously. He loves an argument and belittling people. Hes such a Kn*b.

theres no union that we could join either to help

we cant raise a greivance about it cos hes the boss and doesnt believe in those type of procedures. hed would just say you know where the door is

thing is when he wants to talk we're all forced to listen and cant disagree with his points of view due to fear of him kicking off which means we end up listening to some of the most right wing extreme points of view!

I would love to tell him where to shove his job but Im in training and cant leave before July or I wont qualify which will mean the alst few years will have been wasted and he knows this.
#14
thats why he probably acts the way he does, as he knows your tied down, wish i could help you out there, good luck

Your in a right predicament there. I would say its def not worth losing your job over and your best bet is to hold you tongue and get on with at least until your training is done. You could always learn to tho darts at a photo of him

Been there.. i worked for a t8ss3r over 20 years ago when i was a nipper. Its not that easy when you are inexperienced and are told no one else would employ you or for some of the other employees who have kids and a mortgage.
I eventually got another job and haven't looked back since. My ex boss went on to be Mayor of Portsmouth. i just couldn't believe it when his ugly mug was on the front of the local rag. I'd love to meet him now tho..

See if your company has an anti bullying policy.. if not download an online version, print it out and leave it on his desk...

hes sacked a group of people before when they tried to unionise themselves against his behaviour - was before my time tho

People have tried to tell him before that hes a bully and its unacceptable but he doesnt agree that he is and they never last long as a result

my collegue is getting her stuff ready, think she may walk out even tho shes got a child on the way and jobs are getting harder to come across, she is so upset

Oh dear.. poor girl.. what sort of Job is it she does?

Your boss must follow a grievance procedure listed here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ResolvingWorkplaceDisputes/DG_10027992

if you are sacked for raising a grievance you have grounds for a claim against him, a fact he will be well aware of

Ok, from experience, if you record him it will not be listened to by any tribunal etc, ACAS is an excellent service which offers great advice!

If you have been there under a year you really have very little rights, sorry.

The girl that is pregnant, just watch as he may be trying to get rid of her before her maternity leave starts!

You can leave work under constructive dismissal, can be difficult to prove though, Check your contract of employment too, it might help.

Best thing to do is as suggested note all outbursts, times and dates and witnesses. After a year you have many more rights.

But best advice i can say is just get out and get another job if you can!

Excellent advice there

Thanks, Im a boss, so ive been there a few times on the other end!
#30
he doesnt know shes pregnant cos shes terrified that he will get rid of her if he finds out

ive been there over a year, as I said I cant really leave due to my need to complete my training

a lot of what he does you cant really record, its the general cloud over the office that he brings with him and his general demeanour.

the worrying thing is I think he thinks hes a great boss!!!!

thanks for the links, some interesting points to look at
