Bought something online the other day and now my card details have been stolen

Just had an automated call from lloyds tsb card services to ask about some transactions on my card. Two payments of £15 have been taken out for o2 pre pay vouchers and they have then attempted to get another item for £279 but that is what flagged it up as possible fraud.

I'm just waiting for the bank to now phone me back so i can speak to someone.

I'm only £30 down at the moment but with this card you also have the extra security of having to put in a password at the end of the transcation so how can these payments still get through?

It was a debit card too so it doesn't look like i'll be etting my money back

i would be extremely surprised f it was amazon, you aint got anything on your comp have ya, and where else do you use the card

Was It Amazon Or Amazon Market Place? I agree tho that your card details could have been stolen weeks ago. Hard to pinpoint really with all the spending that goes on this time of year. Good that the bank rung you tho.

Why does it look likely that it was Amazon? Have you not used the card anywhere else in the last say 12 months?
#4
yeah maybe i'm being a bit hasty automatically assuming it's amazon, haven't used the debit card online for a while and as soon as i bought from them this happened....just annoyed at the moment, could have been from anywhere really.

I get an automated call from the bank about this, wait for about ten minutes to speak to someone and then the message says they will get someone to call me back...still waiting
#5
doesnt have to be online - card details can easily be aquired physically aswell

amazon, there is literally a very slim if any chance it was them.
#6
yeah i've edited the title as people say it could been stolen from anywhere really

Mine were stolen from a reader on a cash machine in an airport, was about 4 days before they tried to buy anything. I got the full £70 that they spent back.

It is always things like Prepaid money for phones as they dont need the security on the card, just basic details!

You will get your money back, make sure you also send back the fraud form that your bank will send you!

**Just regarding Snow Tigers post, i got mine back within a week**

Im with lloyds tsb BTW!

Common occurence lately. First of all they buy mobile top up vouchers and then come back for more.

You'll get your money back as you are covered for fraudulent acitivity on your card. :)

yes and always seems to be for O2 credit, maybe O2 need to look into how the security needed to purchase

Online is a lot more secure than when you hand in your card in a shop or a resturant
#13
Funnily enough last time this happened to me Amazon was one of the places i'd used it online, then i found out they store your details,i never knew about that,so make sure you go into your account and delete the information there,i don't think it's ideal retailers storing your payment details.

Have you ever used it in the past at Shopto?

You will get your money back, they send you a form to fill in for the Police etc, then it gets credited back to your account.

One of the dads at my littluns football team was telling him what'd just happened to his eldest!

Apparently, on Friday Night he tried to withdraw some cash at a bank ATM, but the machine ate his card and no cash given. It wasn't until the following afternoon what had happened was uncovered. His card had been heavily used Friday night and Saturday morning at loads of supermarkets and cash withdrawn.

The machine he used was a fake. An ATM in appearance only. He'd entered his PIN and off they went later on their spree! It's not a new scam - but it's certainly the first time I've known about someone caught out.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me last month. 2x£15 payments to O2.

I'll check my online banking to see if I'd done any shopping at Amazon around the time.

EDIT
-------

Halifax online statement doesn't go back far enough to check.

Another experience of mine of fraud was the Carphone Warehouse online,it was a new CC and i'd not used it anywhere else so it was defo them.

They are one and the same thing where payments are concerned.

This is usually a scam involving random number generators,

A manager at work has just had similar thing happened to him. He's used play.com and amazon in last couple of weeks and then used his card at Sainsbury's.

Had this happen to me before.

Had about £200 taken out of my account £50 at a time. Contacted my bank and they were going to send me out a form but the money then mysteriously was put back in my account so no more was done about it.

I never did find out what happened or who took the money in the first place.

Thieves eh.

£600 worth of plane tickets were ordered from my card, it is a debit card and Barclays had the money back in within 48 hours. You are still covered for fraud :)

I know it's your favourite subject...........do a search on here for the Warner Bros thread where they are being sued for $60 Billion for thieving from music artists.

That sure beats the downloaders by some margin. :-D
