Awesome air displays, attractions and fantastic evening entertainment Bournemouth is ready to welcome you to the UKs biggest free aviation Festival!
20th - 23rd August - BY THE SEA & COMPLETELY FREE!

The More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival is shaping up to be bigger and better than 2008. With more aircraft, more on the ground attractions and more awesome Night Air evening entertainment it promises to be a must-see 4-days of breath-taking aviation action!
For 2009 Bournemouth is the regions premier event for the Royal Navy Fly Navy 100 Naval celebrations - with plenty of fantastic interaction, hands on action, displays and demonstrations.

Watch out for an incredible line-up of civilian aircraft including: the worlds only formation wing walking team - Team Guinot, Yakovlevs Aerobatic Team, The Blades Aerobatic Display Team, The Matadors, Spitfire, Mustang, Sally-B, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Eurofighter Typhoon and three displays by the Red Arrows.

On the ground, between the Piers there will be 1.5 miles of stalls, attractions and displays.

'Night Air' 2009 from 7pm, includes The Band of Her Majesty Royal Marines, a hot air balloon glow, displays by the Royal Marines Combat Display Team, street entertainers, world record attempt Roar on the Shore, fireworks display.. something to keep everyone entertained!

See you there!

Did you know, the Air Festival...
Is by the sea and completely free - no tickets, no cost its a free event!

Has fantastic cliff side views giving you an eye level vantage point of the great air displays with the bay as a stunning backdrop.

Has an award-winning prime beach viewing area the size of 25 football pitches! Not forgetting the 1.5 miles of stalls and attractions between the Boscombe and Bournemouth Piers.

Nice!

Might also mention that Lowestoft, Suffolk has a 'free' annual seaside airshow Thursday-Friday this week. Voluntary £2 donations are very appreciated though and a bargain.

Highlights are Vulcan bomber and Venom fighter, F16, Battle of Britain flypast, PAVE Hawk SAR, and of course the Red Arrows!

H&R even if your post sounds like a hard-sell sales pitch:)

Through my job I have to visit all the Airshows in the south and south east and we have more than any other region in the country. While the success of these things are always weather dependent I can say that in 2008, it's first year, Bournemouth was the best show that I visited. The fine natural backdrop outstrips any austere airfield airshow although, if you are a real spotter, you cannot see all the aircraft parked up close and personal. Significantly, the fact it remains free makes it a great value family day out.

As an independent reviewer, if the weather forecast is good, I can concur that this is a very hot deal.

sounds good, might take the kids down.
can anyone in bournemouth tell me how far a walk it is from the train station please?
#6
Might check it out

Voted HOT if weather OK.

Train about less than mile from beach (Overcliff) sit on cliff walk or walk down steps to beach, between Bournemouth & Boscombe great views and less crowded, easy but busy walk along beach to Bournemouh pier which is packed.
Would advise this rather than catch Bus into Bournemouth centre (packed).

Loved it with family last year.

Probably 15 min's (look at google maps and do either b/mth train station or Asda, St. Pauls Rd to Bournemouth Pier - station is next to Asda). It's a nice walk there , especially when you get to Bath Road which is down hill and you have the sea on your left.

Just under a mile from Bournemouth Station I'd say but a very pleasant walk down to the beach. Alternatively you can get off at Pokesdown station where you can get a free bus (number 14 every 20 mins) if you show them your train ticket and it takes you right down to Boscombe beach, where you can walk along to Bournemouth pier (around 1.5 miles but where all the stalls will be)

How does this compare to the Eastbourne show? http://www.eastbourneairshow.com/
I already have tickets for the Eastbourne one (thanks to the recent 1 pound return ticket offer on SOuthern Railway), but wouldn't mind going to Bournemouth as well if the show is different or better.

Thanks
Greg.

Not trying to steal anything away from the OP but Eastbourne has a 4 day FREE airshow the week before for anyone that can't make the Bournemouth one.

Thanks, might be worth a day out if the weather is good.

I went last year and it was amazing. loads of craft and similar stands to wander through along the promenade and lots of planes. It was great trying to see them as they came along the beach.

Last year I watched a lot of the airshow from the RFA Mounts Bay that was in the bay and was doing free guided tours. I beleive they will be doing the same this year as well as another RFA or Navy ship.
The thursday night sees Roar on the shore, a record attempt for the most fireworks to be set off in 60 seconds (110,000).
Saturday and sunday the Royal Marines will be doing Beach assaults and the Army will be setting up an assault course.

I use this site to check what air shows are on each year - hopefully it will be of use to others:

Eastbourne was Europe's biggest free show until they charged for entry last year, which co-incided with Bournemouth's first year. Eastbourne is back to being free again but Royal Marines and some others have switched to alternate events. Both should be great days out if the weather holds up.

As this is information rather than an event requiring tickets we've moved the post to MISC as per other similar posts.

Hope the weathers nice for all those that attend :)
