Boycot cinema snacks?!

I go to the cinema quite a lot and always get really fed up at being ripped off by the price of the 'snacks', paid just under a tenner for a couple of bags of popcorn and one drink last night.
I think this is real profiteering and we should all boycot them and take our snacks in under our coats!
What do you think;-)

Snacks should be banned in the cinema completely, I go to watch a film, not listen to a hundred people munching for two hours, it's really distracting and annoying, if you can't go a couple of hours without eating then you need to see a doctor.

I do if I go with toh but more aggro with the kids......

I always take a bottle of water with me (dont bother with food - but would take that from home to avoid being ripped off) never been approached or had any trouble over it.

There I go opening my big mouth - now probably the next time will get hassle for it!! :whistling:

Yep - even taken sandwiches in to LOTR. Long movie!! Going to the Cinema is great but it is an expensive outing for the family if you need to partake in the 'treats' too!

ALL my kids are allergic to all sorts of things in ANY cinema food.....severe nasty reactions like galloping diarrhoea. That is what I said to one manager who dared to questions why I had brought in my own food.

He let me in. There is no legal basis for them to stop you, although they can refuse to let you in

I could not go to the cinema without my goodies!! :w00t: I would be devestated!! I'm slim so do not need a doctor. I don't drink or smoke so goodies are my treat especially when i go to the cinema. If you can't hear the film then you probably need to see a doctor as there are so many speakers and it's so loud it would be impossible not to hear!! You sound like on of those annoying people who have no kids and get easily irritated!! :giggle:

P.s- i always take my own goodies with me and agree with boycotting but my other half disagrees and i end up pinching his nachos!! :giggle:

Nachos!!!
You are one of the reasons I stopped going to the flicks.
Not only do you have the noise of the bag, but the crackliest, noisiest snack you can consume.
Shame on you.

Next time, take wine gums in a tupperware box and some 'still' water.

Alternatively, get a big telly and stay at home. Works for me.

THE other day tried to sneak a pizza in but was told- "no food from outside permitted"

had to bin it or eat it b4 going in

never back since as too embarrased

They don't seem to care at my cinema, i just go in (To the free screenings of course) with it all in my hands and haven't been questioned once.
#13
I hate cinemas in general now. The ones near me are never clean, ridiculously overpriced, and one of them doesnt even allocate you seats so its just a big free-for-all if u turn up a bit late. They show over half an hour of adverts and trailers, and people seem to make much more noise than they did a decade or so ago. Some people just sat there chatting the last time I went!

Blimey, I sound like an old man!!

Illegal downloading is the way forward!
#14
mmmm nacho's, the only cinema food i usually buy. In a bag? rustling? mine come in a tray with melted cheese and salsa with jalepenos. I hear more noise from the fuddys tutting when i dare laugh at a funny!
I agree with the 'if the sound of someone eating annoys you in a cinema then their is something seriously wrong with your hearing'
maybe you need to ask the cinema manager toturn up the volume as its obviously too quiet.
What really annoys though, is kids kicking my seat from behind, though their ignorant parents are even more annoying

How do people that smoke go 2 hours without a fag?

I think for some people who smoke if they got their mind on something else they not bothered about a smoke.Since the ban come in,my Mum who smokes, can go absoutely hrs without if we shopping and its indoor centre or like at this outlet we go too,its kind of outdoor circle you walk around with a canopy thing over,if you want to smoke, you need walk out into the car park area in the middle. She ain't bothered, then we usually hurrying for some train, then you get to station and she can't smoke on platform,so then its hrs passed since she smoked and she ain't bothered too much but then will light up at next opportunity.I don't understand it...I'm not actually addicted to anything so can't ever understand the need once you start something.
#17
Oh yeh when I do go to cinema,I take my own drink,I'm not bothered about a snack and I certainly wouldn't buy anything from in there.
How come it seems only cinemas sell the small boxes of smarties, fruit pastilles and fruit gums?
I ain't been cinema in ages, last film I saw it was War of the Worlds, the 1 with Tom Cruise in,not the original, that would be rideculous long time not to have been.
#18
My brother works in a Cinema so I get free tickets.

If I couldn't eat while watching a film It just wouldn't be the same. I never buy from the Cinema, always from outside.
#19
well apparantly the prices are so high because they actually make little to nothing on the screenings, the fatcat moviemakers etc takes the slice so the only way they profit is to have high prices for food

im not too bothered adding food and drink completes my vieiwing experience:-D

I never buy food from the cinema.

I use to just take my own stuff in, but know they want to check the bags to make sure we dont bring our own food - how ridiculous.
#21
Cinema snacks? No thanks. After putting up with all the noise of people consuming their 'delicious' snacks they're precisely the same people who get up for a toilet break - they should be banned!
#22
It's like some parody going to the cinema these days...people seem to be buying enough food and drink to last them for a couple of weeks rather than a couple of hours. The popcorn tubs and drink canisters just seem to get bigger each time I go bac.

These days I tend to go to quieter screenings, early afternoon or very late at night as I prefer not to be surrounded by people munching on popcorn and nachos plus drinking for two hours straight.

From memory, cinemas make about 10% on ticket sales, with 90% going to the film distributor. However, on snacks, the virtual opposite would be true, with the cinema making a 90% margin!

The approach of taking your own in is obviously entirely sensible, especially for any self-respecting HDUK member. Just be aware that if no-one bought treats from the cinema itself, ticket prices for all would have to be raised to compensate.

Its mental, people eating , peoples phones going off.
People munching really loudly. I dont go the cinema anymore.

Why pay nearly £7 to get in,then sat infront of people eating or talking, just wait till it comes out DVD so you can watch it at home, for nearly the same price (or use the magic of the internet to view the film).

Why do people need to eat whilst watching a film.
I can understand why people might drink (thirsty, might need to take soem pills etc), but its not as bad as food as its much quieter.

They should serve soft marshmellows in a nice silk bag

Food should be banned from cinema.

LOL, either you guys are super sensitive or your cinemas are not playing the films loud enough cause i never have a problem with people eating loudly, just the chavs chatting.

I once snuck three cans of San Miguel and a 12" pizza from a nearby chippy into my local cinema. I'd have been much more proud of this were it not for the fact that I was so drunk that I fell asleep half an hour into the film, and that it was Basic Instinct 2 my friend and I went to see.

People really annoy me in the cinema. Noise from food. Talking on their mobiles. Kicking the back fo the chair etc.
So I've got my own cinema in my front room. Projector and 104" screen and amp and speakers. I can watch what I want when i want, whilst eating what I want and wearing what I want.

And it's movie night tonight and it's Spiderman 3, flapjacks and a bottle of wine

Talking on their mobiles.

To be honest, when I've been to the cinema I haven't noticed anyone talking on their mobiles whilst watching a film - maybe it depends where and when you go though :?

If you have a problem with people talking and ruining the experience for you then talk to the manager.

We spoke to the manger in local odeon and got refund on our tickets. But best of all, they have made changes which have stopped the problem (couple of people on each door and do keep checking) of people making a lot of noise, and also people getting into films when underage

We spoke to the manger in showcase and he really wasnt bothered, said it was our own fault for not leaving the film to tell someone. Emailed head office and received a very nice personalised letter thanking us for telling them as they did not realise there was a problem and can now attempt to fix it. It also contained 2 cinema passes valid for 1 year

Oh and, the price of cinema snacks? What d'ya think dads are for???? :giggle:

Bugs me that they serve hot food though, as they wont allow hot food from outside in to the cinema because of the smell - whats the difference!!!

Also, why serve crisps etc which are going to make noise!

It's not that we can't HEAR the film over the snacking, it's just an annoyance and distraction, when you are trying to enjoy a film to be hearing *crinkle crinkle gulp gulp munch munch* throughout.

The worst for me, and the reason I don't go to the cinema so much is the SMELLS rather than the noise. Last time I went to watch the Simpsons movie I had someone sat near me, and lord only knows what it was they were eating, but it rollocked to high heaven of stinky feet and BO (a cheese and onion based food stuff I'd guess), there was no where we could move so I had to sit there feeling sick for over half the movie, ruined the whole thing for me.

People have no consideration, they want their noisey snacks, they want their smelly snacks and to heck with every one else.

Not read all of this thread so sorry for any repeatitiion.

Cinema;'s are not to blame.

Warner, Buena Vista, Fox 21st Century etc are the distributors, there tend to be a handful max in most countries, without these people distributing the films around to cinema's making the deals with all the cinema's, there is no cinema film industry.

Basically it's a monopoly on films, if they don't give something a green light it gets very limited viewing.

The result is they get EVERY_SINGLE_PENNY someone pays for a film, the cinema gets NOTHING.

They benefit one way, one way only, selling cheap food at 500-2000% profit margins along with any bar's/small restaurants that a cinema may have. I go to the cinema occasionally to, I usually eat just before or after I go and take a coke can with me :)

Welcome to greedy Hollywood.

PS: after seeing ppl moan about noisy viewers, I've had people chucked out before, only twice mind, both times ignorant inconsiderate little chav ***** if you complain to the right ppl in a firm and choerant manner they have no choice to make them leave but that is rare for me and nothing matches the cinema experience.

Surely the cinemas have already done this!! Have you seen the prices??!! :-(

I've never seen people talking on their phones but texting, yes. Which is annoying because it's so dark that the light from their mobile really does show up lol.

shanecr thats my pet hate too, kids kicking back of my chair, and there parents not telling them off!! Drives me nuts. Im evil i deliberatly bob my head back and forth then so they cant see the film properly! Revenge IS sweet. IF i then get asked " Can you stop bobbing your head side to side as my daughter cant see properly, i reply well tell your daughter to stop kicking the back of my chair like shes been doing for the duration and i may think about stopping" It works!

i cant help it lol.
