Phone them. They're very helpful.

Me too, there's a number on my payslip to ring in case it was wrong though. They've messed loads up.

BR is emergency tax code, so u will be paying more tax

br is normally what you get taxed on a second job as thats what i have got on mine for my second job

it isnt emergency tax code its standard tax code for a person with 2 jobs or pension! :thumbsup:

Agree with this. If you ring them an tell them you only have one job, they will change your tax code to normal one. But they will catch up with you next year and demand the money back. So easiest to just accept the BR code and accept that you will be taxed on all your money from second job

i have recently started a new job and am on a BR code when i rang them i was told its an emergency code until they send my new code to my employer

i used to work for inland revenue and br IS an emergency tax code, it is automatically issued until your employer issues you with a new tax code which is usually 3 numbers and a letter dependant on your circumstances and whether or not you have company car, private medical insurance etc etc. anyway if you havent moved jobs and nothing has changed then call them and explain as i know there was a muck up about a month or 2 and they send letters to people about emergency tax codes for 2010/2011 (my oh got one) so just explain the situation and they will have it changed no probs :thumbsup:
