Bradford and Bingley compensation decision

Just received a letter stating that holders of shares in bradford and Bingley building society are not entitled to compensation. Really miffed about this as my daughter had shares which she was keeping to help her fund university. She goes in October to start her course and could have done with as much money as possible to help lessen the debt she will inevitably end up with at the end of her course. bahhhhhh!!!

I hope the appeal overturns it and people get what the shares were worth at their height and hope other people who have money in banks don't have it robbed from them when things go wrong.

Why? Shares are a risk. You can make money or lose money. Does that mean if I put a grand on a horse in the 5.30 and it loses I should get compensation - as I see no difference at all?

People who have money in banks won't lose it if a bank goes under - well not if they keep under the limits

if you are going to quote ..do it properly with the text in my post or simply read it again

Wow - that's stirred up a hornets nest then hasn't it? I agree that 20p per share would be fair - govt. took control when I thought that's why people had shares - to have control. Maybe it could have been taken over or bought out. If I took over control of something then I would expect to pay for the privilege. Seems reasonable to me?

except the goverment only took control as they were going to go under, so people would have lost savings and money in their accounts.

Do you know how much the offer was for? I had shares and haven't got the letter yet.

So why did they not allow it to run its course? At least then it would have been transparent - all avenues would have been seen to be explored and we would all have known where we stood! Government have bailed out the banks who have then proceeded to pay more bonuses this year. Have the banks paid any of the money back? I think not! It seems to always be the "little" people who have no protection and lose out! hey ho

There is no offer - just a letter to say nothing is going to be paid!!!
