Thank you for placing an order No #....... with BrandAlley. On this occasion we need to carry out some added security checks to ensure safe payment.

For us to complete your order, please send us the following two items:

* A photocopy of your passport or photographic ID card
* Proof of your address for the past three months

As anyone had this before when ordering with them ?

I placed an order last night for £400 and this came in an email this morning. I'm not sure if I should even bother, seems a bit dodgy so asking anyone if they had it before with them ?

It was my 1st order with them too.

Never seen this before, I would not send the items unless others have seen this and it is ok. Seems a bit strange and will delay your order too I guess.

How are you paying? I bet they want to open up a credit account for you - lots of places try to do this automatically. If this is the case (and it's not a straight-forward scam) you can probably opt out and just pay in full.

EDIT: They will probably want payment in advance if you refuse the credit checks/account set up.

If its your first order chances are they are just be careful in case of chargebacks, with the order being so high.

I've paid with my Mastercard credit card so not wanting credit to pay monthly,it's not like a catalogue website like Littlewoods etc.

To be honest I can't be bothered with it, my passport round at my Mums and I can't be bothered to dig out papers, I've only moved into my current address last month.

If you've paid with mastercard I can't see what their problem is. I personally would refuse.

I have heard of Ebuyer doing it.

Heres one thread
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.cfm?action=showthread&threadid=373682&forumid=2&sr=1

as it's your first order
Have you moved house recently and not yet changed your bank details?
Do you want the item shipped to a different address to the billing address?

I moved in this address last month,I've updated all my bank cards and been placing order on loads of websites since and not had this... including ASOS,Amazon, and so on.

I think I'll not bother,I've got enough to do without going through papers and stuff at my Mums house.

I've emailled them told them I'm not willing to do it as I've not been asked from any other websites and to cancel the order if they can't to it on what card been provided so far. The £400 pending to go out on my credit limit so it should fizzle out in a few days if not taken.

Have you put £400+ orders through as first orders to those companies since moving though?
You can't really blame companies from protecting themselves against chargebacks, its a pain but I can understand why they do it.

If they're worried why don't they say they will wait until they have the payment and then dispatch the goods. I don't like the idea of giving someone a copy of my passport etc just to back up a payment. Having said that I've used Brandalley a few times and they've been fine.

Yeh I have,I'm always using new websites,I've known about Brandalley for ages but this was 1st time for them, and I've done it in past at other addresses too,new customer with newish address for a large amount. Usually at the most I may get a call from the Credit card company asking if the transactions are mine if I've been spending a fair bit,but not a problem with the websites themselves.

It's too much hassle,I've emailled them saying cancel order,it's not the only handbag in the world so I'll wait till I see something else another time.

you can chargeback up to about 90 days, so unless you are happy waiting for 3 months its not really an option :)

Personally I wouldn't entertain them either. I'd be wondering what they do with the copy of my passport, how it's processed and if and how it's disposed of. Far too easy for a rouge employee to take advantage of that kinda situation. Just my opinion

Update - They gone and charged my card for £400 plus postage, the date being 3rd March,I didn't bother sending in the information, but no delivery yet.I've checked status and it says waiting for documents. I'm going contact them to refund the money, they had cheek to take the payment if they were wanting documents and I told them not to bother with order.
#18
They since sent out order,so must have agreed it was bit out of order to charge the card before seeing documents, got by the order without sending them in either,so been easier if they done it in 1st place.

i had the same problem told them to cancel it, they have and my status says order cancelled and they have debited my card. What a bother, im so dissapointed. I advise not to send the documents cause even if they say they destroy them staight away i would not believe them. Thanks! this blog helped me
