I rarely have little rants on here, but I've decided that it's time for one.

I just headed over to the Sky News website. The five stories on their homepage are all labelled "BREAKING NEWS". Surely, if an internet news site is doing its job properly, then most of their recent stories should be "breaking news". So the phrase is, in essence, a little bit redundant (and sensationalist).

The term "BREAKING NEWS" isn't even being used properly. Their first "BREAKING NEWS" item is about three new cases of Swine Flu, which I read on the BBC News website over two hours ago... and even they weren't calling it breaking news...

In fact, I'd already read two of the other four stories over at BBC News a long while ago. They're hardly "breaking".

Discuss.

Sky news isn't one of the best news sites.

I find google news is often better. You could also try the sites of some of the better newspapers x x

Best let 'froth and fussy' know your opinion of the 'modern' media.

Seriously - yes it is irritating; why not just have the info there withough branding it as 'breaking' - redundant and sensationalist - quite right!!

Rant stamped with 'approved rant' :viking:

I actually agree with you. Sky News is for people who can't concentrate for very long. For example, I'm supposed to be doing something, I get bored of it, I go to BBC News and have a read, then I go to Sky News and have a read.

I enjoy reading stories on BBC News mainly, and my home town's local rag. I do check Sky News every now and again because they do actually break some stories before BBC News, albeit without much information. I also sometimes check the London news sites.

Gawsh, HOW BORING AM I?!?!

How did I know you'd ask that?

64 is the most boring, if you must know.

You didn't; you just pretended that you did.

So that's a scale of 1 - 64 then?
70 is off the end of that scale.

Where are you on that scale LOM - just so I can gauge?

No, I did. It's just you who'd like to imagine you are not predictable.

And why would it be a scale of 1-64. Your thinking is so linear.

I am a 37.
