As any of you doing building work will know the cost of bricks has doubled in the last year so as i've been trying to find the cheapest source and thought i'd help save anyone time who's thinking of doing the same.
There is also a shortage up here in scotland.
All prices are for you standard class B 65mm brick (inc VAT):

Jewson : 38p
Wickes : 35p (100+)
B&Q : 40p (but no stock)
Travis Perkins : 41.8p
Rembrand : 41p
Buildbase : cannot get stock
Keyline : 53p

If anyone needs prices for celcons or sand i have those too.

How many bricks do I need to build a house ?
#4
I don't think they have doubled in the last year. When have they been sub 20p? I think I paid 24p back in 2007.
#5
They definitely have up here. I've got quotes from august 2008 and I got a pallet (400) of ibstock class b engineering bricks for 16p/brick from Jewson. Wickes were 18p at the time.

sorry August 2013... not 2008.. its the 8th month!

There is a massive shortage at the moment and prices are rocketing as a result.

8? More like 5, house not a mansion.

You don't have a typical builder's Avi. Flux

Some bricks are a year's wait, sad news, I'll maybe go down the timber frame kit route and use a mixture of materials for the external walls.

Yeah, maybe, I think for my next build I want to go more euro/german, timber elements with brick and render, hope the planners aren't backward thinking

I'm paying £1/brik!

We have had a problem sourcing bricks.
The ones the builder wanted to use aren't going to be re-manufactured until 2015!
The other ones we compromised with went up 50% in price.

I feel sorry for the builders actually, they have had a rough time with the recession and now it's perking up this is a real hindrance for them.

Its the builders' fault actually, they usually promised to buy so many million bricks in advance to the european makers but slacked off during the last lull, hence a back log now and high prices.
