Hello all, just a quick question my 10 year old daughter has got an audition in manchester for britains got talent this friday , I only entered her out of curiousity to see if she would get chosen, and if she was then it would be experience for any future auditions for her. The problem is she has quite a good voice and wants to do a song but has nothing prepared as i wasn't expecting her to get an audition. So I was wondering if any of you good people could recommend any songs that would be catchy and unique and something the public would like for her act. Also if any of you have been to these auditions before can you tell me what to expect and if you have any tips. This is her 1st audition btw so fingers crossed hopefully the nerves won't get the better of her.
many thanks in advance.

i sang when i was younger and it is quite daunting on the first time around as everyone is looking at you . so get her to sing in front of lots of people .ask in school and things. do something cute and she will be a sure winner .as long as the voice is good

YEah amy macdonald is awesome so if she can do one of them well go for that as quite up to date but not run of the mill poppy stuff, shes actually on my facebook as a friend :)

Although i prefer This is the life. Also a truly awesome song if she has got teh voice is 1000 miles by vanessa carlton. All the others songs i can think of wont be appropriate for a 10 year old

Do something that is appropriate to her age (as we don't know how old she is). So if she's really young then Over the Rainbow or something similar would do, if she's 8-14 why not something from High School Musical, the audience are sure to love that, and if she's older then any up to date chart song would be fine, or Simon Cowell always seem to be impressed when people do old songs that I've never even heard of, so look for some classics out there.

All in all, I'd say a High School Musical song, especially one of the new ones, would be the best bet as people of all ages love them and they're so catchy, my 3 & 7 yr old daughters love them, I love them (I'm 36) and my 10 & 13yr old nephews love them so you can't really go far wrong. Edited as I've just had a great idea, why not do the new version of "We're all in this together" which is on HSM3, it's a lot slower and beautiful. If you haven't seen HSM3 then you won't have a clue what I'm talking about, but try and find it on youtube, most people will know the words but it can really show off a voice on this version.

I don't think any of scotland88's songs are right, KT Tunstall is not right, second one is a bit fast and pacey for a little one, and last one is too much talking type of song than singing.

Connie Talbot's single is here, that might give you some ideas

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Over-Rainbow-Connie-Talbot/dp/B000XFRJMO

Some are Christmassy, but there's also a few that might work

1. Somewhere over the rainbow
2. I believe
3. White Christmas
4. Smile
5. Imagine
6. Walking in the air
7. Favourite things
8. Wonderful world
9. Ben
10. I will always love you
11. Silent night
12. I have a dream

The first audition stages (like xfactor) are in front of the producers (1 or 2) , a camera films you, this footage is then sent off to be judged by someone else. A couple of months later you are told if you have 'made it' (or are bad enough lol) to perform in front of the judges. A friend went to the auditions last year and she said there was lots of waiting around, which made her nerves even worse!

Good luck to your littleun :) There is a forum here that might have more specific advice.

I'd go with "Somewhere over the rainbow". Good luck.

you wouldnt want the judges to think shes trying to ride the coat tails of someone else tho, this was last year, so this year they will be looking for somthing different from what they have jst worked with, Not that its a bad song choice jst it would look to much like a copy cat version and people might not like that

thankyou sharon_uk for the website it looks really helpful, only had a quick glance at it but I know it will give lots of tips for my daughter.

i'd avoid songs that have been done to their death, something different imo, but obviously something that your daughter is content with to ease her nerves

good luck :)

I agree with that, Somewhere Over The Rainbow will be done to death by every kid.

I'd say something that brings out the cuteness factor, cos that's what will sway it

Thankyou for the idea of connie talbots songs on her album, I will see if my daughter can sing and knows any of them really well enough. My daughter absolutely adores hsm and knows all the songs in all the films and can sing them really well, but all I am bothered about is that it may not be unique enough and it will be a very popular choice with young girls and the judges may get fed up of hearing hsm songs. She has got quite a low rough voice although she can sing high notes. Katie Tunstall would be a good match for her voice but not sure if she knows any of her songs and whether the songs are a bit too old for her. Thankyou for all ur comments and suggestions keep them comin in.

What does anyone think about the song black and gold?
#14
Great song maybe a bit old for 10 yr old,
#15
I agree HSM might be great but lots of children would be doing it...but seeing as it's the first auditions they are looking for talent, not to poo-poo a child for 'doing that song again', I think it would be a great choice to do if she knows it well, and then learn something new if she gets through to the next stage. This might sound a little crazy but have a look at the songs Same Difference from xfactor sang, they were always singing pop young person type songs and might give you inspiration.
#16
she could practice hsm on the consoles as my daughter has sing it on the wii

Didn't realise; as I don't watch it.

As I mentioned HSM before, I think it best to reiterate that I meant the new ones from HSM3. I totally agree that the others have all been flogged to death, although still popular, but a song from the new album would be fine I think, and they seem to be a bit more grown up and with it, more like "real" songs and I still think the new version of "We're all in this together", the slower version would be a great song to sing.

Good luck to her, hope she does well.

I have a friend who uses this forum and both Paul Potts and George Sampson are members. They joined up during their auditions. In fact Paul Potts is still active on the forum and regularly offers tips to new auditionees.
