British Airways Staff - Are They Mad?

Are the BA staff mad, global recession on, BA losing huge amounts of money, yet they are going to go on strike from 20-23rd March and 27th - 31st March inc, affecting the start of the kids Easter hols.

I've flown a few long haul flights in the last couple of years with BA and on all flights we encountered rude/disinterested staff, filthy toilets and cabins, they earn more than most other airline staff, after the last flight we flew with Virgin, what a difference in standards.

They will bring our national airline to it's knees and will alienate the public with this strike

do you know what they are striking over and how diiferent virgin and ba are as companies and how they treat their staff?

the point of a strike is to cause disruption and attention......so busy times are always at the forefront

Yes they are mad. It is typical action by a union to force a strike when they don't get what they want, the union does not run BA, the bosses of BA do!!

Only used BA once and had bad service vote with your feet

I think BA staff should count themselves lucky to have a job, virgin laid off a lot of staff in the last 18 months, my sister included

I have a friend who has worked as cabin crew at Virgin since 1996 and she has always been treated very well, her oh is classed as senior cabin crew on longhaul BA flights and has also been treated equally well in the 9 years he's worked for BA, he earns far more than she does for exactly the same type of work, I feel that in this climate some commonsense should prevail, if the strike does affect the airline as much as predicted and also the confidence that the general public have in them longterm, they may not have jobs shortly anyway.
The international co my oh works for has for the last month or so since the union balloted their members have asked American Express who make al their travel arrangements for them not to book with BA, my oh has flown with SAS, Singapore Airlines, Virgin and KLM in the last 8 weeks instead of BA.

They'll go the same way as the miners & dock workers.

It is truley farcical how in these times of hardship for normal working class people, that these air crew feel the need to strike and drisrupt peoples holidays, business plans and the like.
They should be thankful they have a job and accept that the company need to make these changes to safegaurd jobs for everyone concerned with ba.........It would serve them right if the company goes bust and they all lose there jobs

i dunno tbh - i dont know the full situation, but from what i see:

a) ba staff get paid more than virgin staff
b) virgin laid more than ba
c) ba staff say their service is better than others which justifies their pay and their existence in the company

(true or not, i dunno)

d) both sides have their way of cutting losses. ba staff say that their way of cutting expenditure is better and "the people at the top" wont listen. (tbh i dont know whats "their way" yet, so whether its better is anyone's guess.)

That said, i always seem to feel that "the people at the top" are mostly capable of doing the works, so if they did disagree, its probably right

Just fire them all and recruit some newbies who would actually appreciate having a job
