my parents agreed to switching to british gas business in october and then didnt hear from them until a phone call recently saying they owe a bill. they asked for the meter reading which was 8**** (cant remember the numbers!!!) but they said it was 9**** from january so they sent someone to read it and it was 8****. so i was wondering if anyone would have any ideas how they will work out the bill in this case?

thank you for any help given!

They do estimate your bills when they send them based on average usage.

When you give them an actual meter reading, they will simply adjust the bill accordingly.

In your case, you have used less units than they have charged you for, so they will send you a revised bill which will be less.

Hope this helps

thanks for the reply!

they insist that the january reading was not estimated so someone came in but no one recalls anyone coming to read the meter, so does this mean they won't have to pay the gas bill for a while then? :giggle:

Well if it's like a 1000 units difference then they may be in credit which means they owe you money!

If so, you can get them to send you a cheque or just let them take it off the next bill.
