Make a copy of this email I put together and email it to everyone you know (heading of BG ripping off loyal customers (again!). Please forward on to everyone in your address book):-

IMPORTANT FOR BG CLICK ENERGY DUAL FUEL CUSTOMERS

British gas put up their energy prices on TUESDAY 30th SEPTEMBER 2008 by 51% for Gas and 40% for electric. They have set up a new product called CLICK ENERGY 6 which is 20-25% cheaper than the existing CLICK ENERGY 1 to 5 products.

Existing customers are NOT moved on to the new product and are NOT notified at all about the price rise. This is immoral so please pass this email on to everyone on your mailing list.

Go to the following web address to get moved on to the new CLICK ENERGY 6 plan:-

http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy/dual/click-energy.html

Better still, leave BG altogether.

Thanks.

So those without internet access ie, the old and the poor, are going to get nicely shafted. Don't know what this country's coming to (as my old nan used to say).

Well i'm disgusted the government hasn't stepped in and done something about all this. Then again they do rake 5% in tax out of it.....

Re Scottish Power, don't know what they're like these days but I had 4 years of hell with them and some thicko debt collectors when they claimed I hadn't paid the bill. Even though I sent them copies of the statement with a bank stamp on to say it had been paid they STILL came back, and back and back.... Would never deal with them again after that. So keep hold of copies of your bills/payments just in case:thumbsup:

Thanks for that! Just checked mine and I was on a more expensive one, but have changed it now. I went through Quidco too, but am not sure if I'll get anything from that or not...

We've increased our prices but you're still benefiting from cheaper energy prices.
This email is regarding:
Your Energy Prices

Your pricing area: Seeboard

If you have any questions please visit our help and advice section online.

World oil and gas prices have been reaching record highs – this is an issue facing all energy suppliers. This means the cost of energy has been going up and will probably continue to rise. As a result of this, we had to increase our standard energy prices on 30 July but we delayed increasing your Click Energy 5 prices for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, we had to increase your prices on 30 September 2008. So for a home with average usage, Click Energy 5 gas prices have risen on average by 42% and electricity on average by 21%.

You're still paying less than our Standard prices.

The good news is you're paying 7% less for your gas and electricity than our standard rates* and you've saved, on average, £67** because we delayed the price increase for 2 months.

Visit our website to see your new prices. You'll also find more information on why energy prices are increasing and what we're doing to help you with rising energy costs.

Save up to 1/3 on your energy bills.

With rising household costs, now is the time to start looking for more ways to use less energy. So, to help you, we've made our Energy Savers Report even better. It now has a new Energy Planner that shows you how you could save energy and money – up to £444** in fact. Try it today to see how much you could save.

We always aim to give the best level of service.

You can now view our 2008 Standards of Performance online. This explains the services we provide, the levels of customer care that we guarantee and the service levels you can expect from the companies that maintain your pipes and cables (network operators).

Thank you for being a British Gas customer. You are important to us.

Yours sincerely

Phil Bentley
Managing Director

P.S. We will automatically reassess your Direct Debit payment at the time of your next statement. We will write to let you know before we change your payments. So you don't need to do anything.

*Savings versus our standard tariff based on average annual consumption of 20,500 kWh for gas and 3,300 kWh for single rate electricity, paying by Monthly Direct Debit, and is a rounded average across all regions. Prices as at 30 September 2008.
** Based on industry average consumption of 20,500 kWh for gas and 3,300 kWh for single rate electricity, average across all regions and includes VAT and discounts appropriate to each tariff. Based on difference between average annual Click Energy 5 bill of £845 and annual Standard bill of £1,240 divided by 365 days multiplied by 62 days (30/07/08 to 30/09/08).
***Based on Energy Savers Report data March 2006 - June 2008 plus efficiency advice.

If you wish to terminate your contract for the supply of gas or electricity (or both) to avoid these changes, please contact us on 0845 676 0671 within 14 days of receiving this notice. Lines are open 8am-8pm Monday to Friday and 8am-6pm on Saturday. Your call may be monitored and/or recorded for quality assurance and compliance purposes. Evening and weekend calls cost 6p plus up to 2ppm from a BT Together landline. Mobile and other providers' charges may vary. You must arrange an alternative supply.

PLEASE CHECK WITH BG THAT THEY HAVE ACTIONED THE SWITCH TO CLICK ENERGY 6 IF YOU REQUESTED IT. Twice now they promised me it had been done yet I received an ameil yesterday stating I was on click energy 5 still! I just replied to that email with:-

Hi,

Not a good start on my new account then. I have telephoned you twice now and each time asked to be put on the CLICK ENERGY 6 Tariff. I was told this would be done immediately. From your email response below, I am still on CLICK ENERGY 5.

What part of "Please switch me now to click energy 6" did your telephone "service" personnel not understand?

PLEASE SWITCH ME TO CLICK ENERGY 6 IMMEDIATELY.

I will re-check in a weeks time and if I haven't been moved over then I will be starting the transfer process immediately to scottish power.

Regards,

An underimpressed customer!

Welcome to hukd bitterwallet, although you've probably been here longer than me!!

I doubt people will receive letters about this as it's an on-line tariff so they'll save money and send e-mails.

I can forward it to you if need be.
p.s. isn't your e-mail address going to fill up with spam putting it like that on a forum?

We've just posted an article about this on Bitterwallet, after speaking to the British Gas press office:
