Hello,

I have a friend that has just recently moved in to a new place, I thought that she did have a BT line because of the BT branded boxes in the house, but when I call BT on her behalf they tell me that the line is not connected / active which means it's not connected to the exchange and they would like £124.99 for the pleasure in doing so. Does anyone know if I can reduce the amount of £124.99? Are there any special ways in doing this, do I have to quote something etc... Or is she just stuck in paying the £124.99 to them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I read on here before that someone got onto OFCOM or something on the grounds that BT don't have to do as much work if the box/wires are already there and they got let off the £125.

Otherwise, if your friend can hang on a bit then BT do sometimes do half price/free installation offers every so often

Hope this helps

I had this EXACT same problem, ask for an engineer to come out and check its not connected, we did this, they come out as we had a line fitted and the wire was running to the outside of the house, and they gave us a quote of £124.99, so we said ok then forget it, not paying see ya laters, he turned round and said will ring up and see if we can get the charge removed, and hey presto it was instantly taken off!!!

Ring and request an engineer to come out and give a quote on the off chance there isnt as much work needing to be done.

Hmmm that is interesting, I'll try that and see what they say, it's a complete rip off £124.99 for someone to sit on their **** for 10 mins to connect some wires!

There appears to be an offer at the moment (until end of Sept), discounting re-connection to £29.99, if you take on an 18 month contract.

wish i had known this a month ago. but then again the engineer was here for a while connecting the box as the builders of our appartment were incapable of doing anything electrical
