Anyone from Hull? Trying to get the mother in law set up on broadband she lives in Hull and has a Kingston Communication phone line. Seems that only Karoo is available and this is expensive at £12.99 per month after first 3 months at £8.69 does anyone know if there are any other providers or way around this?

there was only Kingston broadband back when I lived there a couple of years ago. Mobile broadband is another choice if she doesn't download stuff much.

All the networks have coverage here. Depends where you are exactly to how good the signal but all work fine in the built up areas.

Just checked on T-mobile's site again and it says it has good coverage for her area yet when we were there at Xmas and tried to use a T-mobile dongle it was so slooooooow - which mobile broadband can you recommend have experience of in this area?

Karoo isn't too bad, it's all i've ever used though so i have no comparison. A couple of mates use them dongles, i think they are on Orange.

It's all down to where you are in relation to the towers. Hull's no different from any other city in that respect.

How can a place only have one internet provider? I live in a tiny town and even that has 3 different broadband providers.

I'm guessing its because BT don't have any lines in the area and Kingston Communications have a monopoly.

I thinks it's because as said already, BT don't have any equipment installed.

Karoo (or KC) have said that any operators are allowed to use their equipment but put the rent for this usage so high that it's not worth any rival company moving in. I think there may also be something about the telephone infastructure operating at a different voltage to BT's, but could be mistaken here.

It's pretty much KC if you want a landline connected broadband, which sucks as you can't get some of the better and cheaper deals Sky et al offer.

I've tried a 3 dongle, and that doesn't work as well in some areas. I guess it depends on where you live.

Another annoying thing is that BT still advertise in Hull. Oh well it's not all bad, KC do do a bit of charity work.
