broadband routers!!! HELP!!!

hi everyone!
well after i got incredibly annoyed with talk talk i've got my MAC code and i'm about to sign up for orange broadband.
it says they'll send me a new router but i need to buy a wireless adaptor seperately. my laptop is wireless so that's not a problem but my kids use my old pc for homework etc which is connected to the net via a netgear wireless adaptor. could i still use this and avoid forking out for a new adaptor or will it not be compatible?
any help greatly appreciated as i'm not to good with all this techy stuff!

edit.. my old pc is too far away from the phone line to have a wired connection to the net

no, i'm getting the home max package and they're sending me a router which looks the same as my netgear one. i think the livebox is only with home ultra. don't really need to pay extra for the internet phone connection as i always use my mobile rather than my land line. had such a hard time finding a good deal in my area :(
with orange (as i don't have an orange mobile) i'm going to be paying £20 a month for unlimited internet, line rental and evening and weekend calls (and £100 quidco!) which isn't too bad.

once when i was having problems they told me my laptop hadnt got a wireless card in it, even though i had been using it for years, this last episode took over 2 hours of phone calling as my conection kept dropping, every time i rang back they would say if this doesnt work we will send a new livebox out, and everytime i rang back they would try something else and say the same, after 4 phone calls i phone for my mac code and hey presto the guy sent me out a new livebox, and all is working well again, but shouldnt have had to spend hours on the phone to get that far

yeah, if you get any problems try here 1st, far more helpful than orange

If you thought Talk Talk were bad, wait until you go to Orange ( read Lemon ).

They are even worse for BB.

yeah but i bet orange don't cap your unlimited bb and increase your monthly cost without sending you a letter to let you know! talk talk sent me an email about it to an unused email account so i only found out after it had happened :x

why? have orange done the same?

I left TalkTalk on Friday. I was a Tiscali customer, and never had a problem with their service, but as of a couple of weeks ago my service has been shocking. The speeds have been terrible, and customer service were very unhelpful and extremely rude.

They have just about the worst reputation possible for supplying Broadband.

I went to BT, the only other ISP I could find who operate in my area, who can offer an unlimited service. That was the only reason I went with Tiscali in the first place - because their service was unlimited.

When I rang up they tried offering me all kind of discounts but I was so angry I just said no, give me my MAC code please. I tried ringing their technical help lines, but they were useless. They did all the troubleshooting, and couldn't find the fault, the woman tried arranging for an engineer to come out, but for whatever reason she said there were none available. They never rang back like they said to arrange an engineer, my speeds are less than dial up most of the day and my internet is completely unusable after 4pm. I couldn't even load the speedtest website the lady tried getting me to go on during the trouble shooting, because my connection is that bad. Enough is enough so I left them on Friday. Will probably be submitting some letters of complaint to various people.

i know exactly what you mean about the unlimited BB. when i phoned tiscali/talktalk for my mac and explained why, the lady on the phone told me how much i had used in the past 3 days and told me in a rather rude tone that i didn't need unlimited. i then told her that the only reason my usage had been low lately was because my service is now capped and i'm worried i'll go over my limit (my girls play online games which i have now banned them from doing till i'm back on an unlimited service!)
very few isp operate in my area too only really BT, Orange and Tiscali/talk talk doesn't really give you much choice, grrrr, i only live 3 miles out of a town centre too!

Sorry to hear that. The only thing I can say is, that BT are offering some OK deals on line rental/calls/broadband and BT Vision. I think it's about £42 a month for unlimited broadband (option 3), calls and BT Vision.

I have Sky so I just took the line rental, calls and broadband. This comes to around £32 a month.

I bet that you can get at least 20 other BB suppliers at your location.

I never even looked at Orange. Doh.

I miss living in Manchester, where I had NTL's 20 meg cable.. and about 8 cable modems. Now that was awesome.

yes your right but all the others either charge a LOT more than their advertised deals (because of my phone number/postcode) or they do not offer unlimited

You mainly get what you pay for with BB suppliers, if you are happy with a cheap and nasty supplier like Orange....fine.;-)
