Broadband WITHOUT a stable phoneline?

Greetings! Whilst on holiday from University I live in a house without a dedicated phone line (no need - my mobile is enough!). Its a real killer though, living without the internet for 4 months of the year!

What I'm looking for is a way to use the internet without a phone line and without a lengthy contract. Is this possible/practical?

Any advice would be appreciated, and of course rep given generously to anyone who takes the time to post something useful! :)

yeah! pay as you go mobile broadband. I'm using a 'Three' one to type this on. got it on this offer (before they added the albums carrot:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/440733/new-9-99-3-dongle-with-5-free-album/

check your coverage here:
http://www.three.co.uk/_popup/Coverage_checker?maptypeForm=mbb

prices etc:

One thing I will say is that the modem on that offer is fairly pants but your milage may vary!

All the mobile networks do mobile broadband, but I've found 3's coverage to be the best.. if congsted in places. The best thing about this dongle is that it's a) its cheap! and b)it can be unlocked if you want to use another network

Using huggychairs coverage checker I get the best coverage, which is good. Is it possible at all to get an unlimited(ish) use on like youd get at home, but mobile, like these? I wont be downloading masses of stuff but I would be leaving the internet running almost constantly (theres a few of us here and so theres almost always someone surfing or playing a game at some point...).

Thanks all, repped :)

Shame about the gaming, i'll pass the message on to my flatmates. I'll look into the iPhone suggestion - thanks guys. I actually have an iPhone (original) myself, but I need something much quicker for browsing etc, its a pain!

Anyone reckon 02 would give me a better deal considering ive been a customer for 3 years?

(repped all again ;D)

Isn't it about time some phone company started to an offer internet only line ?
They keep banging on about using mobiles for everything, but then you have to pay for a phone line you never use... Nice little money earner for them . . .

Mobile Internet's no use to me, my monthly download is over 100 gig. . .

I maybe remembering wrong here, but their site say, 'as fast as an ISDN service costing three times as much.' I haven't used ISDN much but isn't it a max of 8k ?

It would take a week to download the last episode of Fringe or 24 at that speed !!

No, IDSN was the premium service in the days of dial-up. It went at either 64k or 128k.
