Broken 360

Hello,

My cousin has had an xbox360 since 2006. This means his warrenty is up.

He dropped the console from about 2 foot and now it wont turn out.

He rang microsoft sayin it wont turn on (didnt tell them why)

They said they wont fix it because warrenty is out but they would fix it if he got 3 red lights (warrenty extended for that)

So he was wondering..If he rang them and said he has 3 red lights would they fix it or charge him. (understand?)

Thanks

My understanding is that if the xbox goes out of warranty then you can still pay microsoft to fix the box (my mate recently got his repaired for £59.99).
The 3 red light warranty is for the 3 red lights, and i imagine they check the consoles as they get them to ensure what you said was wrong with it is actually wrong.

Also, if you go on the us website and request a repair, they send you a whole email full of rules about returning your xbox.

It states that the xbox must not have been tampered with and if they find that the repair was requested after the warranty, then they will hold your xbox until you pay to have it returned.

[slight thread hijack]- does anyone know if getting your xbox repaired renews the warranty for another year??

Tell them it is RROD and send it off anyway. Likely result is that will be too busy to check and send out a refurb. Worst case they will return it unfixed at their expense.

I know if defiantly does... I called and asked! you get an extended warranty for 12 when you fix it with them for £60 ish

thanks, just got my email telling me my xbox is coming back.

On website it said i have a whole year of warranty again :)

But, now the website is showing me as having no console registered?

Does that probably mean i'm getting a new xbox??

It means the serial number has changed. Could be new, more likely a refurb.

OP have you tried turning the console on with the joypad (or a remote)?

Phone and claim RROD then get the box you wish to send it in and crumple in the corner so they think it was dropped in transit. :whistling:

What's the worst that happens, they send it back.

You have to pay to get it back.

Well thats what the email said!

I have never heard of them actually charging anyone for return shipping (I know quite a lot of ppl who have chanced the return with the tamper seal broken).. Just deny, deny, deny. "It was RROD when I sent it. Your courier must have dropped it, etc etc".

I tried turning it on with remote...as i always do...

and thanks...

think i may chance it :)

Only problem with telling them you got RROD is that thats the problem they will try and fix, not the damage from dropping it.

MS retroactively extended all 360 warranties to 3 years last July.
