Just to try and balance the books regarding all the customer service slating that seem to appear on this site and other forums, this is my experience with Brother today
I have an MFC5840CN networked multifuction printer bought in Feb 2007 as a result of a deal posted here. The printer was offered with a free upgrade to 3 year on-site warranty. Paid less than £100 for it.
So over the last two weeks I have had a problem with the black not printing correctly and requiring daily cleaning cycles, so today as I was home from work early I thought I would call Brother and see what gives.
13.56 Called the UK helpline and gave them the deatils of the fault. I was told someone would get back to me when an enginner would call.
15.17 got a call back from Brother to say that an enginner would acll today before 5pm !!!!!
15.40 Brother rep knock sthe door, comes in checks the printer and says that it may be an airlock in the ink delivery system because as you would expect it printed perfect black! So he did a power purge using the engineer fuctions on the printer.
Then he said that to be sure it was best to replace the print heads, just in case the fault returned. Then when he called Brother to order the parts it was suggested that the whole ink delivery system should be changed so that they are sure the printer would be fixed.
So printer now working and parts on order for Mondat or Tuesday.
Now thats what I call service :-)
Well done Brother, I will certainly buy another Brother printer should the need arise
