BT internet issues - DNS outage (Update - BT Fixed and resolved)

Are you having trouble connecting to several sites? (If HUKD is one of these, move on.....you won't be able to see this)

It looks like they have major DNS outages nationwide atm. Problems with Amazon, Twitter, HUKD, eBay etc.

If you are and you are browsing on your phone then it's not us.......it's them.

Hopefully will be fixed soon.

Just change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

They've said up to 4h.
Now you are waiting in the q just to be told there's a nationwide issue in their network.
Why not just give an automated message for thousands which ring to find out.

Some of you have a cheek to sit and complain saying that you pay a fortune for this garbage.... I have had BT for a while now and I have never had this issue so this is a first! Nothing can work perfect constantly they are allowed to be at fault now and again!! Stop complaining!! I am sure they will do all they can to rectify it as quick as they can!!

4 hours! EE not working properly in Bristol and now BT is down, these companies are a joke. if you went to a supermarket and bought half dozen eggs and only 5 were in the box you'd either expect to have that egg replaced or receive a credit but these companies just take your money what ever the service they provide.
#25
Thanks so much for posting this!! saves me having to make a call to bt

That won't be much of a help as they're probably unable to access the links :)

The DNS fix isn't working for every site. Some stuff still down, some stuff loads very slowly.

it works for the most part, and it may be slow for you but your best bet is to check \https://code.google.com/p/namebench/
for the speed of the dns servers available

It works for me and I was having the issue, plus net is owned by BT btw :)

Been trying to find out what's going on for the last hour, couldn't even get on bt help pages, other than to do a status check which said there wasn't any issues!!!

Oh I'm not rubbishing it as a temporary solution, but I hope people don't think it's a permanent fix. It'll do great to tide us over until BT put some more money in the meter.
#32
Another workaround is by using a proxy such as Zenmate (for chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/zenmate/fdcgdnkidjaadafnichfpabhfomcebme?hl=en )
or HotSpot shield, that fixed my issue and all I had to do was activate Zenmate!

Changing DNS to 8.8.8.8 certainly helps most sites, but its not a complete fix. There's still a few sites that don't seem to work on BT that are working fine from my phone.
#34
It's working for me now. Must be fixed. :D
#35
Yep. Seems to be back up and running here too! :)
#36
Yep, set my DNS back to default after seeing Biddilybah's comment and it appears to be resolved.
#37
Might be fixed now, the main websites such as twitter that were failing for me are now opening. Will still use the namebench to get a better dns server however.
#38
Yep, back up and running. Major panic over. BT is going to get annihilated over this :)

another fine example of how the telecoms industry in this country is a complete shambles needing massive legislation, openreach can do what the hell they like, charge what the hell they like and will never have to face a single customers outrage over it,
great work if you can get it eh..
