Thanks, is that the whole complex, or just the rooms? Also does Pontins have rides like Bultins?

think it varies depending on the venue-some butlins are absolute hell holes.

its horses for courses really,if you know what you are getting and thats the sort of holiday you want then as long as you pick the right venue you will enjoy it. if bingo/amateur cabaret, endless rows of fruit machines and a lot of shell suited lowlifes are your thing then go for it.

they built their reputation on being cheap and cheerful. now they are expensive and chavvy.

ok well we go abroad mostly but have had weekend and midweek breaks at Butlins(Skegness and Minehead and Pontins Blackpool and southport)
Would not go back to pontins(the 2nd trip was a free weekend and we came home after 1 night) Pontins have one grade of chalet, with carpets fitted in the 1970s, Butlns even the lowest grade is fine, clean beds etc.
Pontins we also fed the metre £8 in one night) and were never warm as the windows were taped up as they didnt fit! Butlins never an issue and elec is free.
All venues were better at Butlins and the amateur panto at Pontins was laughable...in comparison to the lovely shows we watched at Butlins..

never go to Pontins! I could go on forever-toilets in the dining room people wouldnt use as faeces on the walls(Blackpool)

what about haven?
pontins is really bad but entertainment o.k for kids
not been to a butlins but they seem to be very expensive!
where do u live?

i would go to butlins, so much better then pontins ( well the pontins closest to me is rubbish). also at pontins you have to pay for electricity and gas whereas you dont at butlins.
or as person above said about haven, thats really good, used to always go to different haven sites on holiday, great entainment for both adults and kids :)

when you say rides...Pontins none...Butlins now have less i think than they had but we noticed last tme at skegness the kids indoor area in the nursery was FULL of little tikes outdoor toys...slides and playhouses etc and an area fo babies. My little ones also like the smaller fair area(cant recall name i think it has noddy shows thee too) at skegness it has about 5 rides and they go from one to the other as at pre-school this is enough!
They are fenced off and well supervised as Butlins have learned from mistakes made long time ago when kids were hurt and theyre fussy about kids being the right size to ride.
if you go at school hols butins is busy in the dining room and like a canteen-out of high season its very nice-plenty choice and hot. Usually if there ae 4 or less of you half board is not much more than sc, and it makes a change from cooking. Butlins is well geared up fo babies with food prep stations etc...and the nursery ofcourse but this is chargeable now(but it is un professionally)
I can find faults with both places but would visit only Butlins.

I don't know about Pontins as I've never been but Butlins Minehead site was brilliant, we went a couple of years ago, and loved it, 1st time at a Butlins as well.
Haven is crap, we went to the Fleetwood site, my parents paid for it as a treat. Swimming pool was no where near big enough for the site, and nothing to do on site.
I think they saw it because Blackpool is just down the road, they didn't need to bother.

Yes Pontins is the worst of the bunch but it all goes down to what you want or expect.

Pontins is as said before, outdated but its still nice if you arent a snob or like to go walking or enjoy time in the arcade or such.

Pontins shops are IMO better and drinks prices in the bars are slightly cheaper, I disagree with Pontins itself being chavvy, its not though I did see people who looked lower class and who drank cans of lager they caused no trouble and never bothered anyone so again its more a case of snootyness.

Havent been to Butlins in 10 years but its full of good memories for me, Haven is ok if you like caravans and cramped/overcrowded bars and complexes, I would reccomend the one in Ayr, or possibly the ones in Scarborough as they have the best rep.

Neither, because I've still got some degree of self respect.

im no snob-just dont like it when my feet stick to a 30year old carpet and i want to wipe them on the way out:x
also faeces on walls is unacceptable even to 'chavs'
and pontins never addressed the issues i had either, despite complaints letters.

self respect? so if you take you kids away for a bit of fun you have no self respect? where would you go?

Thats right.

Where would i go? Centre Parcs maybe? I dunno really, I've not really thought about it, since I don't have kids, but it certainly wouldn't be either of the companies mentioned in the thread title.

I never said you were, but many people have talked about Pontins before and mention a lot of things that are overreactions etc.

I have only been twice and had a spotless apartment and because both holidays were free i wasnt expecting the Ritz, but when (other) people complain about free or very cheap holidays there its a bit stupid as they arent paying for massive luxury.

I cant say for your issues as the faeces would be a big issue but the carpet MAY be an overreaction.

if its the hafan y mor site its really good the pool is huge, there are things to do on site but u do have to pay for them.in my opinion the chalets are nicer and more spacious than the caravans and most of the time they are cheaper too.we go couple of times a year there with the kids its only an hour drive for us :)

No it's not, Butlins and Haven are the same company. Butlins is definetly the best, the one in Bognor Regis has some really good accommodation now with the 2 hotels, we have been here quite a few times for weekend breaks and always have fun, maybe a bit much for a week. Only thing is the hotels can be a bit pricey and the basic chalets are not the greatest.

would prefer centreparcs pobably myself...but my son loves the shows at Butlins:)
He would however enjoy the outdoor type hol they offer but when i last looked at prices it was twice Butlins and i would much rather go outdoors in a pool in Egypt than sherwood forest...tbh if you havent got kids you will realise later when you have to x everything by 4(even soft drinks) some of these places become a nightmare...i have two now to buy for but in the past have taken my kids and sisters and had 7 to think of. It changes things..

erm over-reaction? my kids had to keep shoes on even when they had pjs on:oops:
the apartment looked freshly painted and kitchen was clean, but i felt like i was camping as the windows def dont fit....oh have a look on trip advisor-lots of pics there-i dont care how 'free' it is it should be a basic standard...dont forget the people who get 'free' hols spend in the shop, pub and cafes so they make more money than being closed which they had been the month before we went:whistling:

Never even dare enter a Pontins/Butlins - they are both living hell holes.

Get over to Centerparcs, they are a million times better (I kid you not).

we had like a lino floor in pontins and my youngest who was crawling at the time his sleepsuits were filthy!i had to bin them and buy new ones.i complained and they did come and quickly mop it but the dirt must of been ground in as the baby would still get filthy.we just tried to avoid letting him go on the floor but it was hard when we had other kids running about that he liked to play with and i was constantly washing his hands.and yeah we spend a fortune where ever we go on drinks etc coz there are so many of us!my partner is the only one who will have a beer the rest of us drink coke which im sure is more or less the same price as a beer.in some places u can sneak a bottle of coke in the bar with u but in some places like flamingo land they check ur bag!!

never been to centre parks is there much to do there for the kids and do they do evening entertainment for them?

forgot to mention that the pontins holiday we paid to stay in the best appartment,if those were the best i would of hated to see the worst!!

oooh we got the sun hol at butlins skegness and USA in August sons wedding:thumbsup:
we could afford to pay for the kids drinks etc but until Butlins lowers its prices i wont be buying many! I would rather buy us stuff we need than waste it on stuff like that...at Butlins or Pontins they didnt care if you took drinks in-at Pontins we even took butties into the club lol-we did buy dinner tho as it wasnt expensive(but wasnt good!)

If you book CP in advance, it's also a lot cheaper.

I booked a 4 bedroom new style villa for 6 adults, a baby & a dog for the grand price of £360 for a midweek break :)

thanx 4 info, it was Presthaven we was looking at, its only 3 of us and the dog thats why we looked at the caravan as it would be plenty bid enough, my nans caravan site was next door so know the area but havent been down by there for over 10 yrs so not sure how much its changed. We have booked our main holiday for Feb next year but just wanted something cheap for middle of this year.

will have a look at chalets, see if can take the dog in them and see if it cheaper:thumbsup:

Center parcs is great when you have young kids as you can go anytime but once they are at highschool forget it. The prices are ridiculous. We went for 10 years on the go till my oldest reached 11. Now its just too expensive which is very sad as i loved it.

£360 / 4 = £90

£90 / 5 = £18 per person per day (if thats too expensive, then you should stay home)

You should goto Pontins (benefit paradise)

where did i mention benefits:? and btw i think thats offensive:p

i said i prefer to spend my money elsewhere...we have the Butlins weekend costing us £100

£100/4=£25

£25/4=£6.25 a day per person

My kids will have a lot of hols on a budget:thumbsup:

in the last two yeas they have also been to eurodisney and legoland...and i think even 4 days at disney was less than your CP

Far from it, but having endured the above for 5 days (well 4 because I came home a day early to escape), I'm giving my view.

I got a 'bronze' room, which is a 6x6 cell, so upgraded to a "silver" apartment.

Much better, but cost more than centerparcs, and the site & facilities were awful. It was literally hell on earth.

we have 2 holidays booked for haven this year
march 26th for 1 week paid £178 for 2 adults and 6 children in a superior caravn then we booked 1st oct for 1 week again 2 adults 6 kids in a 4 bed comfort plus appartment and that was £190

yeah pontins is rough and dirty but its cheap and the kids will prob enjoy it just make sure u take a box of cleaning products and maybe some of them plastic things that cover ur shoes like they wear in theatre/hospital.i personally wouldnt go there again especially with young kids
