Hi,

This applies to people who bought games and a blu ray film from me this week. I have PM'ed the buyers directing them to this thread.

All games were due to be sent out on Thursday, recorded delivery.

As i checked my paypal account to get the addresses, it came up with a message, saying that my account had been limited, and that they needed extra information about my details and where the money has come from etc. I think it may be because I was new to paypal and had a few transactions coming in to me all on the same day.

I submitted the information through their website but am yet to hear back from them about that.

I sent them an email asking about what was happening and why, and this was their reply:

Dear James Huntley,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your concerns. I am happy
to assist you further.

While we investigate the legitimacy of the funds in question, they will be
placed into a temporary hold. Therefore, these funds will not be made
available to you until we are able to verify that the funds in question are
legitimate. If you have already used these funds for another purchase
through PayPal, or if you have withdrawn these funds you may show a
negative balance for the amount in question.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

I have sent off another email after that asking how long it would take etc but am yet to hear back.

Therefore, i have not sent the games yet, this is the important bit. As i do not have the money available to me at the moment i am not going to do anything. Paypal have told me that they will either reverse all the transactions, so everyone will get the money back, or that i will have the money again, and if that happens all games will then be sent out. So you either get your money back or get the game.

I do not know how long it will take but am doing everything i can to try and sort it out. I'll keep in touch with updates and what is happening.

If anyone has any info that could help us please let me know etc.

Finally my apologies for not posting this sooner, couldn't get on yesterday.

Thanks,

James

You could always open a new Paypal account, refund all the buyers (as you can still do this even when the account is limited!) and then get them to pay it in to the new account.
problem solved in the short term,

Mike..

Mike, I think he would end up in the same situation again. Looks like everyone will just have to wait it out...

I think it may be because I was new to paypal and had a few transactions coming in to me all on the same day.

Thanks for your PM.

I await any news.

sorry your in this situation, paypal can be nightmares.

what I do feel is a little unfair is you holding payments hostage whilst you sort out your issues.
If what Mike says is true and you can refund buyers monies, I would suggest the right thing to do is, if you have not sent the items, and you do not intend on sending out the items yet, that you refund purchasers money and allow them to repay you when you are ready to sell goods.

totally agree, you really should refund all monies, if you where aware of this thursday you really should have refunded straight away

I had this happen to me a while back. I provided all the info paypal wanted but then they just came back requesting original receipts of what I had sold on ebay. As they were second hand games, I could not provide receipts so they kept my account limited for 6 months and then allowed me to withdraw and close the account. never again!

Same thing happened to me csiman about 5 months ago...
Still waiting for that 180 days to roll around so I get the £100+ out.
I had to just send the item and lose the money for a while...you might have to do the same I'm afraid...

Maybe this is a crafty, way of getting some (cheap) investment income for 6 months...and they dont have to pay any dividends, interest etc. hmmmm

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

I had withdrawn the money to my bank - but paypal stopped it - and have "placed the funds in a temporary hold" - meaning they are not in my account - but are also not in my bank - its just stuck in the middle with paypal.

If i could refund everyone, I would - so at the moment the only thing i can do is wait and email them further

I have been reading a lot of similar stories on the net, but I'll wait til paypal have finished their investigations - but yeah if i do have to, i will send out the games, and wait the 180 days to get the money. But i'm just waiting for the outcome of their investigations.

Took paypal 6 months to unlimit my account as they kept telling me my faxes and emails came through blank or just all black and to send them again

Threatened them with the financial ombusman and a few days later my account was unlimited.

BTW I doubt you can refund them with me even though I had £500 in they held it and a buyer opened a dispute and won(even though tracking said delivered typical paypal) then I became £100 overdrawn! because they held the £100 for the transaction and made my balance 0.

i had troubles with paypal just a few weeks ago (started a topic myself)
mine problem was slightly different (had paid for 5 or so items on here) using a card not linked to any account (ie i just clicked on dont have an account and entered my details)
due to making a few payments in a short space of time, they held the funds of everyone i had paid, but i couldnt let them go with out there money etc so i paid them all again via BT around a week later 3 of them had there money released (which they then gave back to me) and the other 2 for some reason didnt but i was refunded by paypal (god no's why) in all honesty m8 i think you should refund them or atleast send them what they paid for as one way or another paypal will sort it and it aint really fair to make your customers wait

I had massive problems with paypal last november, sold a legitimate mobile phone on ebay and tried to buy another one with the procedes. They limited my account!
The money was frozen in no mans land! It took tones of phone calls, all charged to me, and loads of info I had to send to them to resolve the issue! By the end I was getting p****d off with paying for the phone calls, so checked out 'say no to 0870' website for a geographical phone number.
BE WARNED!!!!! it is a Dublin number, These are not cheap from a mobile if you are in the UK!!!!
(as i found out to my cost!) My point being, after spending months talking t the muppets on the contact number given on the paypal website, it took one call to the geographical number to sort it out???? Me thinks that the idiots are on the official number? avoid using it!!!!!
Frustrating, usless idiots!!!!:x
Hope this is of some use??!

And how many people does this affect? Would it not be safer for them to claim their money back now? I'm not sure of their processes, i mean a paypal refund?

How many days do people have to instigate a paypal chargeback?
#18
think it's 21 days from what i rember... but both need to be confurmed people
#19
people should ask for their money back, before paypal totally freeze all the dosh. I have gone through this and Paypal have a right to freeze money for 6 months without any justification. Apparently its in their terms and conditions !

Yes, I think people should do this right away. I would.

Can I ask, did the parties involve swap personal details as per foum guidelines?

I dont really think doing a paypal claim is the way to help this user out. If he ever wants his account unblocked he should refund straight away, or send the items out and wait for the money to become available to him. If his account gets a bunch of paypal claims they are gonna screw the account forever.

I'm not talking about helping the user out... I'm more concerned for the people who have given money over to this person who has been a member of this forum for 6 days... seems to have no trading feedback yet, and I would also like to know if he provided them with his name and address, in case anything went wrong.
#23
If this was dodgy then the people who have paid already wouldn't have a cat in hells chance of getting a refund anyway from paypal.

#33
Well, I voiced my concerns on the first page of this thread. Can I ask again - did anyone get his details so you can follow this up?
#34
I didnt get any details, but I have received a full refund from the seller today after filing a dispute

Hi all.

Sorry i haven't been on, there are reasons for this, but unfortunately i cannot go into details about that as it is a very personal matter.

Anyway - as promised, all buyers have now received a refund, after i have had much contact with paypal and managed to sort it out - thanks for your patience, and once again my sincerest apologies.

Just to be clear - EVERYONE has got a refund, even those who did not open a dispute, everything is sorted.

Thanks

James

jhuntley78,

Any reason why you didn't post out the items in the 1st place. It was your dispute with paypal, not anyone elses. Did you consider offering the item to the buyers prior to a refund ?

Glad you got your problems sorted (or partially)

Hi,

Yes it was something that i had considered - however i knew that the outcome of all my paypal things would be decided within 2 weeks from the problems, so i decided it was best that i just waited and then sorted it out after that time.

Knowing that paypal had stopped the funds, they still wouldn't allow me to withdraw the money now anyway - if i wanted that money instead of refunding it i would have had to wait 5 and a half months to be able to get my hands on it.

I didnt see any point in that, however if after they had finished their investigation, and decided they wouldn't allow me access to refund etc, i would have sent the games anyway.

Hope this clears it up
