BUYING A 7" TABLET IS A NIGHTMARE!!!!
I've been looking to buy a 7" tablet now for over a month but am still nowhere near deciding on one. I have an iPad 1 as my main tablet but am looking for a 7" to use mainly as an ereader, little bit of surfing, listening to podcasts in the bath and maybe games. Basically it will be my 'upstairs' tablet but I want it to have the ability to do more if required but at a reasonable price.
So far there are none that tick all the boxes and I am no further down the line. Options I have looked at are:
Andypad - Good price, decent screen but iffy software, build quality and 'shady' marketing (CPU speed, Market)
Archos G9 - Honeycomb, not out yet but a bit miffed about the CPU speed change.
Galaxy Tab - Old tech still at too high a price
Iconia 100 - Tempting but my budget is £250 and it's not there yet price wise.
Kogan - Poor screen and battery
Scoll 8" Spec Ed - Don't know much about it and am concerned about the CPU and memory.
Archos 70c - Dated and limited OS upgrade potential
Playbook - Ticks the boxes quality wise and soon price wise but would be concerned about the number of apps and long term future.
Kindle Fire - Don't think we will see it in this country before xmas.
Nook Color - Probably the front runner but relatively high prices due to it being an import and few secondhand in the UK.
There are probably some I've missed but I am really finding it hard to spend my money.
I want a 7" decent quality screen,
1ghz processor with mod support,
2.3 absolute minimum but only as a stopgap until a 'guaranteed' ICS port
8gb storage Min
I know loads of people will say to go for the Galaxy Tab and if it was £199 or less I probably would but at it's current price I think there is better for the money.
What would you suggest and why?

Overpriced? who knows. I looked a colour nook and decided against it. I'd stick with your ipad and wait for Kindle fire!!
It's not a vital, urgent purchase which is why I can afford to take my time to get the best one I can but I have a feeling I may be waiting a VERY long time.
To be honest I am veering towards that. Might get the new £89 Kindle on it's own or the Kindle and the Scroll or Kogan just for upstairs surfing.

I am a Kindle convert - the idea of e-books seems wrong to me, but they are great. I read more than ever and the kids use it too. Very easy on the eye, especially late at night.
Just get a grip instead

Wanted a Kindle when I got my Sony. Although the Sony was dearer it had the support for ePub library books so I thought it was the best one to get. Got the wife a Kindle and its screen is much better than the Sony.
That's why I liked the Nook Color as it was the best non e-ink screen versus tablet capability trade off and very easy to mod.
