Right I am looking to get a road bike in the next month or two and I am after some advice, does anyone have any particularly strong views on what I should be looking at?

My budget is about £700-£800, all advice appreciated.

There are only two rules to buying a bike.
1. It must fit (both in shape/size and in purpose)
2. It should be the best your budget allows. Low quality bikes languish in sheds for years because they're unpleasant to ride.

Visit your local, independent bike shop.
You'll find the staff there knowledgeable and generally able to advise from experience. To many of them, it's a passion and a hobby more than it's a job.
They'll talk you through your options and make recommendations on size, the type of bike that best suits your use and the necessary adjustments to make it yours.

£700-800 offers a good selection if you're after road bikes.
Good starters include Specialized's Allez Elite at £800 (full Tiagra groupset) and Trek's 1.5 at £775. Both are great bikes but they feel very different from each other. Because of this, make sure you get a test ride.

If the shop won't let you test ride, walk away. A shop worthy of your trade will be happy to prep a bike for you to try, though they'll reasonably need a few days to get it in a build it.

PM me if you need any fitting guidance.
An option to buy one is from all terain cycles on 3 years interest free, i've just bougt a giant anthem x4 mountain bike this wy from them, you might be able to get a better one to start with
