Finland = Genuine
China = Fake
#2
I was thinking that as well - i.e. the obvious :-)
But eBay are really hot nowadays with fakes - especially electronics........and would remove the listing if it stated it was from China?

They can only act if they find the listing or it gets reported.

So go and report it.

THE GENUINE ONES ARE MADE IN KOREA...

WATCH OUT!!
#5
korean are also fake

the real 1's are made in tasmania
#6
LOL, looks exactly the same, so if fake is cheaper why not, unless you are after the features. camera etc.
#7
Because fake ones arent compatible with Nokia software, have a bad camera, dont have warranty - need i go on!? does anyone actually know where these are made for real?

If you can get the serial and IMEI numbers, Nokia will verify for you.

OK. I think people thought i was joking. But seriously ..Genuine Nokia Arte's are made in KOREA.
The Finland ones have parts form China, but are assembled in Finland. Google this topic, you will see Korea is where the genuine artes are made..

Nokia's in general are made in China and Finland - the Finland phones tend to be for the European market

The general rule is to avoid the China ones because of poorer build quality, but a lot of people say there is no difference with high end models such as the 8800. (and of course, fakes are fake, they can be easily spotted if you know what the real thing is meant to do)

any nokia could of been made in any of their m,anufacturing plants around the world so its irrelevant really you need to access the phone you are intending on buying

i bought n96 a while ago for around 300 whgen they were going for more and there were some n96i from china available for around 200 but they are without most of the extra features

heres a guide i found
1. First off, we all know that Nokia Arte is priced at lowest 1000+. Suspiciously finding it sold at under 600 is extremely unlikely as the material it is made from and wholesale price for such a selective product would never be that low unless it was on reserve for a high price. Still.. I wouldn't even trust a product priced under 800 since this is a relatively new model and everywhere it is sold is priced above a 1000 even in auction sites.

2. As always beware of the origin of production. Nokia Arte specifically should be made in Korea. There are people who talk about the "Finland" version being better than the "Chinese" version. This is not true. If Nokia Arte is manufactured in both locations, the quality and product would be exactly the same. People who advertise this finland version assembled in china or simply emphasizing finland you must beware of. Most likely they are making use of the paranoia surrounding the country of origin and so far Korea proves to be the best bet for authentic Nokia Arte. Mind you this is still not a sure way to determine authenticity alone.

3. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera! NOT 1-2 Megapixel! Also the IMEI numbers everyone asks you to check, it is very easy to get a hold of authentic IMEI numbers and claim that it is the one for the phone! Just because the phone has a real IMEI number does NOT mean the phone is real! After all it is just a number on a sticker anyone can print. Also even if the phone they take photos of is real, they can still send you a fake. Make sure the seller has a return policy that will protect you!

4. The nokia naturally does not have a US battery charger. Make sure the prongs on photos aren't that of an american plug point! Should be two cylindrical ones.

5. Request photos of the back of the phone! Nokia authentic phones have a nokia sticker on the inside of the phone as well as the battery.

6. Nokia Arte comes with bluetooth!! It is not an additional element, the original phone already has one! Any auction that leaves out the bluetooth in the package can automatically be named a fake unless they explain the reason for it not being there in which case you would be buying an incomplete set. Avoid nokia arte listings without bluetooth!

7. Look for the shell or casing of a Nokia Arte. It is not glossy like plastic. especially the gold plated, beware of the overly glossy or seemingly matte finishes. Remember that both the gold and the sapphire have leather on it! If you see a glossy mirror like shine on locations that should have leather, it is without doubt a fake!

8. Nokia Sapphire Arte only comes in brown! There are no black versions or different color versions of anything. Gold is gold and white. Carbon is grey and silver. Normal arte is black and silver, Sapphire is brown.

9. Nokia Arte comes with only one battery! Not two!

10. Do not buy from users who do not show an actual photo of their product and only place the Nokia stock photo. Know that you should always request photos of the inside of the phone and look for Nokia stickers and warranty stickers!

11. Nokia Arte is Tri Band. sorry folks, I know we all wish it was quad band. Avoid quad band listings!

I hope this guide can help you look at these listings with a critical eye. Be careful and help report listings so that these sellers can stop deceiving people!

The best guarantee of getting an authentic phone is to buy from Nokia or reputable stores. As much as we would all like to act posh and rich... the thing is quality comes at a price. Be willing to pay for it or risk being scammed.

Good luck shopping!

I also have a genuine Nokia 8800 carbon arte. It is manufactured in Korea. Bought from an official nokia store in the UK.

It is unlikely that if youy are a UK based customer you would receive "genuine" stock from either Finland. Definitely not China, all of the models on ebay are fake unless they are in the £800 to £1000 price range or used/refurbished models

Nokia 8800 Arte, Saphire Arte & Carbon Arte mobile phones

There are many problems you might have finding a genuine phone, including fakes, losing your money and buying a contract phone that will get blocked. There are many myths and claims with the 8800 artes. Here are some facts to bear in mind -

Buying a chinese version - This is the biggest lie of all, sellers claim they have a "chinese verson" which retails for £350+. FACT There is no such phone as the chinese verson, it is simply a fake counterfiet made from cheap materials.
Not made by Nokia
No built in memory
Only 2MP camera not 3.2
Very poor build quality
Can be bought from China for £60 each!

Buying a contract phone/upgrade - Beware when buying a phone from a seller that is listed as an unwanted upgrade. These can and often blocked by the seller sometime later, usually they have insurance and report the phone stolen they get a replacement, you get left with a blocked phone!!!!
Only buy from power sellers or sellers with high feedback that is 100% and have been members for a long time. They will usually be safe, DO NOT buy contract phones from sellers with low feedback scores or new members.

Expected prices to pay

8800 Arte - Brand new sim free £499 - £600/ 2nd hand as new £300 - £400.

8800 Saphire - Brand new sim free £550 - £699/ 2nd hand as new £400 - £500.

8800 Carbon Arte- Brand new sim free £800 - £1099/ 2nd hand as new £650-£800.

I hope this has helped you not get skanked by all the conmen out there, and get a beaufiful stunning Nokia 8800 Arte
