Buying a PS3 from Ebay.com

I live in the U.K. and was wondering if i buy a PS3 off ebay.com (U.S. site) would i encounter any charges other than the postage to get it over here to the U.K.?

The reason i want to buy one from the U.S. site is that they go cheaper on ebay.com compared to ebay.co.uk

Has anybody ever done anything similar to this before? if so, what were your expieriences? Thanks, Jack.

You might have to pay customs tax, make sure they mark it as a gift.

How would they go about doing that? I will ask them to but what if they ask for instructions on how to do so, i would'nt have a clue :?

after postage i shouldnt of thought not having a uk warranty would be worth it

The postage would cost about £60-£70, and USA PS3's cost about £200 = £270 = Buy a UK console, because if it breaks you can't send it all the way back to america (thats another £60-£70)

Regardless of wether its marked as a gift the buyer will have to pay customs on an item the price of a ps3

I believe that Games Consoles are Duty Free [1] so you would need to pay import VAT (17.5%) on the total price of the goods & shipping, plus a handling fee (usually between £8 - £14).

[1] I can't remember for certain so best to check with HMRC first.

I'm surprised that all who posted replys failed to mention that it would be a huge waste of money if you bought a US PS3 to be used in the UK because as probably know uk electrical goods run on 230/240 volts 50 hertz and US is 120 volts 60 hertz. SO DONT BUY ONE. You'll just feel very silly!

Look on Play.com I just bought one there £300 for a 40GB plus Uncharted Drakes Fortune and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Both games are cool and get rated over 9 on IGN(was gonna buy them anyway). Also seen it on there with devil may cry 4 and uncharted for £310. hope this helps

My brother bought one from New York while he was there last year, he brought it back to England and it worked on my T.V.
I've heard of countless people buying one from the States, so your theory is obviously wrong.

I wouldn't recommend that, I tried to use a transformer with my brothers PS3, and it wouldn't swith on at all. I removed the power lead from my printer and tried that, and it worked 1st time.

I have heard loads buying US PS3s too so assumed it worked without one too. the other posters comments made me think that it didnt.

still, i'd rather have a UK one for resale value

No, didnt know about transformers, still wouldnt buy one tho, still might overheat ya never know, plus dont play PAL DVDs or Blue Ray. I agree, resale value!!
#20
The PS3 takes either standard of power, it has everything it needs built in to control the power
#21
the most common fault for the ps3 is the blue ray drive giving in. mine did. and if you look at the official forums quite a few have. not worth risking buying without a UK warranty

cold toast
not worth risking buying without a UK warranty

Good point! Was that just through normal usage? Any Mods?
