Hi All

Looking to get a laptop for my mum - looking at the Dell Outlet I like their prices but I would like to get a good warranty similar to the retail site.....when I go through to the checkout I don't see any extra warranty apart from the standard 12 months.

Is this the case?

As far as I'm aware the Outlet warranties are the same as the main site's warranties - the likes of the Inspirons only come with one year warranty with an option to upgrade to three for 61 pounds plus vat (this option shows when you add the machine to your basket) however for business machines like the Latitude and Precisions these come with a three year warranty as standard which means there's no option to upgrade.

You could always give the Outlet a ring and order over the phone to make sure you get what you want. My friend has done this in the past and had his outlet laptop customised a bit too. The downside of this approach is that you lose any Quidco you may qualify for if you ordered online. Ring head office 01344 860456 and ask for Dell Outlet.

My case as a guide, I have just added an extra 3 years NBD warranty on my 1-year old XPS M1330 at a cost of £115. This was after several phone calls and a range of higher earlier quotes, so I guess this is about as low as you'll get XPS Premium NBD warranty for. But it also depends on the value of the machine you are purchasing. For the XPS (price of circa £700) it is worthwhile, but I doubt I would take extended warranty on a machine costing less than £350 or so... which machine are you getting?

p.s. I've always been given the option of extended warranty on outlet...
