When buying from someone on this site should I send the payment as payment for goods or as a gift?

Thanks

I though gift... to avoid fees?

This is in the rules...

PayPal Gift Advice:
If paying by PayPal's 'Gift' option to save on fees, you won't be able to raise a regular dispute with PayPal if a transaction goes wrong. For protection make a normal payment and pay the fees...

so you don't have to of course but to be protected you should

Oh right ok. How does that sit with the seller then. Is it expected to be paid as goods because obviously it is going to come out of their money.

No if you choose to pay via paypal goods then usually the seller expects you to cover the fees (on here anyway, obviously thats not the same for shops)

Use this to work out how much extra to pay. If it's showing in dollars, look for our flag at the bottom and click it.

Paypal do not cover you on any Forums even if you pay as Goods.Contact paypal by phone & ask them.They will not protect you.
I think the Rules need to be change on HUKD's to show this is the case.

you are the only one who believes this. They fobbed you off and you fell for it so dont expect the rules to be changed any time soon!

HUKD recommends you use normal pay pal to offer a further level of protection

Ensure you verify all contact details given

try reading the protection policy:-

13.2 What are the eligibility requirements for PayPal Buyer Protection?

You must meet all of these requirements to be eligible for a payment under PayPal Buyer Protection:

1. Your payment must be for an eligible item and made from your PayPal Account (see Section 13.3 for further details on item eligibility);
2. Pay the full amount of the eligible item in one payment. Items purchased with multiple payments – like a deposit followed by a final payment – are not eligible;
3. Send the payment to the seller through:
1. the eBay “Pay Now” button or the eBay invoice, or
2. the “Send Money” button of your PayPal account by selecting “eBay Item” and entering your eBay User ID and the eBay item number; or
3. for purchases made outside of eBay: the Send Money tab on the PayPal website by clicking the “Purchase” tab, or the seller’s PayPal checkout flow;

You Highlight something that means 1000 things lol.They cover you for places as already said by other member s for places like Boots etc but will not cover you on a Forum site.You & boothy are like 2 children who think they know everything & it's a little funny & sad when both of you keep clicking on "Like this comment" tab for each other.

So are other member Liars as well ?

You come across as does boothy that you 2 are more important on a Forum site than everyone else but in truth the 2 of you are just scratching each others backs to help your small ego's.

just to confirm, i called paypal once with ref to buying sommat on gumtree for £300+ - they said they will only cover you if it's bought from a 'sellers official website'- like boots plc etc, or ebay- but not any other private sales from forums or gumtree alike. looks like nothing is guaranteed if not a face to face sale.. even bt or paypal can reverseh/old payment.

DudeyGeeza - Jan 02, 2011 21:48
no paypal cover regardless...

ONLY covered if its purchased on the eBay site!!

The only people who have ever lost money are people who have failed to follow the rules and/or have no common sense.

They then look for someone else to blame( I.e mods/site)

Some of what you say is true,But after I contacted my seller on ebay with his ebay name that he replied with I was happy to go with sale.The mods know I never received what was described & the seller never followed the rules & so should have been banned & still should be banned.He's most probably on here everyday with another user name.The seller went on to scam another member after I reported him.
Why did the Mod give him a warning in the Thread to resolve the issue with buyer (me) & if not he would not be allowed to sell on here again & then for the seller not to follow what the Rules/Mod said & still does not get banned.

boothy - Jan 01, 2011 10:16
^^^^^^^All of what I said is true

Follow the rules and you always have several ways of recouping your money if a deal goes balls up

boothy - Jan 01, 2011 20:24
TheSaint is 100% correct on this occasion to the best of my knowledge no one who has followed the rules in full has ever been scammed and been unable to recoup the money
Wheresmenuts either back up or shut up as you are making yourself look a right tit

Adam2050 - Jan 01, 2011 20:35
People have been scammed and followed the rules, yes it happens. I bought off the same person but asked to be posted first too, had all the details as did all of the people using the same thread, the scammer took there money and gave accurate details that could be checked up on the usual manor, stopped answering the phone numbers. Banned now.

Adam2050 - Jan 01, 2011 22:51
boothy
^^^^still waiting for a thread where people who followed the rules lost money and were unable to claim it back in any way,not just because they couldn't be arsed to or were unable to through lack of intellect

I never said that.

But when they get scammed a couple of quid it's not really worth the effort, probably why so many get away with it. Doing a small claim is really false economy unfortunately.

Someone needs to grow up a little in this thread, showing his colours.

Looks like you make a habit of being scammed,or you were trying to scam someone by trying offload this fake ipod on here

This is when Boothy takes 20-30-40 Minutes to look at all my Threads after he loses the Discussion....You have all the signs of a weak person,Just accept that from time to time you will be wrong.I'm wrong sometimes as well but I admit it.

You send payment as normal, then if it doesn't arrive you start a dispute? How are they supposed to know where the item is bought from unless you tell them? You could have bought on ebay but decided to add extra onto the amount so just sent the payment normal. I think Paypal have fobbed quite a few people off, they don't want to lose money so have just lied. If you'd have opened up a dispute, you'd have got your money back.

I've already explained to you why your case failed, it was not eligible as you sent it as a gift payment. No other reason was required by paypal to decline your request.

Please also refrain from the taunting above.

SB you keep saying this & I keep telling you I paid as GOODS & paid the extra fee.I have also said to you in previous Thread that I can send you a Screen shot of my payment to that case & you have not got back to me on this.
As for Taunting,I think you can see like I can that Boothy is in fact doing the Trolling on every Thread I go on.
If it would be easier for you SB for me to leave then let me know as,But please don't tell me I'm the Troll when a blind man can see what is being said.

Let me know if you want the paypal screen shot even if it will not change the views of paypal not protecting us on here.

When you buy a item on paypal they will want to know where it was bought from if you make a claim.They may also ask for screen shots etc,But I can only go by what I was told by a staff member on paypal when I called them & others on here say the same.This has to be cleared-up as no one knows where they stand.
