Hopefully someone here will know the answer! If i want to set up a balance transfer from my curreny credit card to another, do i need the physical card to be able to do this? eg will they ask for card number, expiry date, etc.... any information I cannot get off my recent statements.

Reason being, I cut up my card long ago to curb my spending! :)

Cheers!

all you will need is the card number, not the expiry, ccv etc..

I think all they need is the account number usually the long card number :)

nice one. didnt want to go through all the form filling just to be asked for the card details on the last screen!!!

unforutnately to balance transfer onto a new credit card i was told i did need the actual old credit card otherwise it does take a lot longer and a bit of messing around.

Who was that with? I've transferred stuff loads over the years, and never ever had to put in anything other than the card number.

My account numbers for my credit cards were always the card number? I can't remember if all were the number though. But just seems OP needs to ask for new card wait the 5 working days for new card then can apply to balance transfer :)

I have a statement and therfore ac number. To do the transfer to the best deals (2 cards at 16-18mth 0% int) I need to give them the expiry date from the actual card, This will enable a transfer at time of opening account and make it a hell of a lot faster.
Otherwise, I would have to apply, wait for the decision on the credit limit on the card etc, then apply for the btransfer, at which point i would only need the account number. I was told by the lender this way would take a lot longer, usually few weeks.

And no, i am not stupid enough to transfer a balance from something i have no details for. did you read any of my comments about checking my previous statements or the bank saying i needed the actual card??

Wouldnt it be quicker if you phone whoever the card is with and tell them your card is damaged and they will issue you with a new card , usually only takes about 5 days .

Hi- Thats what i am doing. I just wondered if i could do it sooner hence the question. It seems that some companies need all the cards details whereas others (as in babbaboeys experience) only require the acc. number.
