Can't answer any of your questions as I've never made a cake,I can cook dinners practically anything but cakes,I wouldn't know where to start, nearest I get to cakes would be doing a packet fairy cake mix with my children.I always buy from supermarkets, around £8 for character ones,be nicer to have a homemade one for sure tho.Did look online once to order a cake and was looking at around £40!!!

I did biscuits ages and ages back, well they went on the tray as round space in between them and when baked, well it just had spread out and it was just like 1 piece across the tray,I blame the oven,we had a naff electric one in a privately rented flat or so thats my excuse.

If you make 1,if you can post a pic up to show us and let us know if it was good.

I tried to make muffins with our eldest a while back. Didn't have the right sort of baking tray though and I thought "Oh they'll be alright in a normal cake tray".
They weren't though. They took over the tray and dripped into the bottom of my oven, rose a bit, then burnt on. Took me ages to clean the mess up :giggle:
We make rice crispie cakes now :)

It's the ready to roll stuff, you can use it for covering or to create 3D effects and designs like roses etc
[QUOTE]what kindo of food coluring is best[QUOTE]

you can usually get the bottled stuff in supermarkets but it's easy to use too much - I prefer using milkshake powder for subtle colour and nice flavor yum! you can get some cool colours from speciality shops.

[QUOTE]can u freeze icing and then defrst it when you need it[QUOTE]

Never tried, I imagine the ready roll stuff would be quite damp when defrosted so hard to use...

[QUOTE]is it best to buy all white roll on icing and then colour it?? or not to use roll on iciing[QUOTE]

Thats personal prefence, I think the shop stuff is horrid and allways pick it off lol! however you can buy it in colours but it's not to hard to colour either

[QUOTE]what does "dusting" mean??[QUOTE]

you seive icing sugar onto the table and pin for rolling out so that it doesn't stick or you can 'dust' onto the cake

[QUOTE]any exprercience in best ways to deorate styrofoam??[QUOTE]

????? what is the cake for may I ask?

Imade a fairy castle cake years ago for my youngest.

I didn't use roll out icing, I "built" it out of sponge and 4 mini rolls for each corner of the castle. Mixed margarine, icing sugar and food colouring and spread it over the lot.I then used upside down ice cream cones for the top of the turrets, iced green leaves etc up the side of it and added little flowers. For the half moon shaped double doors, I used more butter icing with light brown colouring and piped icing around the edge, and used ice cream wafers at an angle to give the effect of leaded glass cut into gothic shapes and piped around the edge of those.

My daughter made little flags for each turret using cocktail sticks and paper.
