Hi, I just been slated on my previous thread for making the following remark, "has anyone spoke to any of the foriegn call centre staff,

Hello my name is max, NO YOUR NAME IS MR SINGH!!!"

the call centre i called was lovefilm. Im not racist, but why do these call centre staff use clearly fake english/american names for?

should they be allowed to use fake names, what are your opinions?

Max (Maximilian) is German by origin actually. If you're not going to be racist, make sure you're not being racist about things you know about. ;)

my husband works in a place which means he has to call foreign call centres to pass on his customers. He says the names they come out with are mad.

They have told my husband though that they have to make up a name that the british can understand easier instead of them having to spell and explain their foreign names. Which is quite understandable.

But to pick things like Elvis, Bob, Bruno lol He has told me some mad names they have come out with.

I'd chose Thor. And I'd talk all deep and gravely.

They use English names mostly as it is easier for us to pick up.. I guess a lot of them use various names to prevent there being any comeback in the event of a complaint as well.

well maybe the guy in question has a name that you would find hard to pronounce like Yadavaprakasa(means lord krishna apparently) or Lakshmigopal .

lol i know where your coming from, but i just called lovefilm call centre, the guy at the start of the call said his name was MAX, but when i asked for his name and details at the end of the call he said his name was MARTIN

What is the point? why dont they use their real names? this problem would not arise in the first place.

Have you read any of the replies? It stands to reason that some people may not be able to understand their real names.

It's normal practice that all Sikh males have the last name Singh. I was taught this in Primary School. The whole name changing at the end is a totally different story lol how hard is it to remember a fake name like Max!

Judging by the OP, I'm thing Kaisar will not know too much about the caste system.
Maybe he/she could ask their Indian friends though?

It happens, someone in our centre at work is called Abid, but everytime he says his real name people call him David, so now he just uses that and its been agreed by site to stop confusion.

I just make up a name for myself.

Infact i think I am the only person who enjoys sales calls....i tell them a varied range of porkies and tales...oh i don't need a new contract the phone is stolen...I don't have an electricity account, as i live in a caravan...i am allergic to water...recently had the guardian on trying to flog me a subscription, i told the girl i couldn't read, she asked how i found out the news,I told her I asked people, she still persisted poor girl.
