360 contoller should work straight away. PS3 controller you will have to download the drivers.

Yes with a wired one or a wireless one + a cross fire (which is what i do), but I must admit its better with mouse and keyboard!

I got a CD with my cross fire and had to install drivers.

For the wired controller you need to install these.

i have windows 7 and when i plugged it in, the drivers were installed and the controller recognised, will i still need to install the above?

If win 7 auto recognised the controller i doubt you'll need the drivers. When you launch the game the controller should appear in settings. If not you may have to take a look in control panel to make sure its properly enabled.

do you have a wired xbox controller or are you connecting a wireless pad with a play and charge kit via usb as im sure that doesnt work, if it is a wired pad then the game settings should have an enable gamepad setting if it does support them

I've started using a friends xbox controller on my laptop to play COD4 singleplayer whilst as uni - miss my PS3 and never been comfortable with a mouse/keyboard, not that I have a mouse with me anyway...

To get it working well, download xpadder - brilliant bit of kit (search torrents if you don't want to pay for it). Program in the buttons you want to use and for what, and away you go.

I've already got that but cant seem to get it to work properly, do you have a cod4 profile for xpadder you could send with all the buttons mapped?
