Calling all W890i owners (especially those on O2)

I recently got a W890i as an upgrade for my previous W710i, which I've been very happy with for the last 12 months. I like the W890i almost across the board except for one minor issue - I can't get a signal in most places! Maybe this is nit-picking to expect a phone to be able to make calls at least 50% of the time but apparently this is a big ask of my W890i.

I could get a signal on my W710i almost anywhere: home, work, the car no matter where I was driving and the GF's house but with the W890i the only place I can get a signal is at home. I'd expect such a slim phone to have a slightly compromised internal aerial but this is a joke. Most of the time it says "Emergency calls only" but occasionally is says "No network available".

So, is anyone out there having the same issue or do you think I have a faulty phone? Please state which provider you are with, too. Thanks

Unfortunately it's an online tariff so it was couriered so do I have to send it back or will the O2 shop be able to deal with it/replace it?

Typical, for the past 10 mins I've had a perfect signal at my office desk where I've had "Emerg calls only" for the past 2 days...

Thanks for the replies

Take it to any O2 shop, they should help.

if u ring them they will sometimes do a trade and replace, where they collect faulty phone and deliver replacement at the same time.

Also learned today that the screen is pretty much unusable in any kind of bright daylight!

I should probably have followed this up. Got O2 to do a courier swap for a new one and the replacement works perfectly  The signal is even better than on my W710i, which I was always very happy with.

The first one was obviously just dodgy.

i got a full 3g signal in central london but 3 bars in e15 east london. But it still works

the shop i bought it from in central london had a 3 mobile aerial ,on the shop. But i noticed their 3 usb modem dongle was really slow even with the tower

The phone was ok though. I hear that there isnt as much coverage outside london.
