UPLIFT!
Bras to let Breeze under Breasts
upliftbras.org

THis is a charity that sends much needed bras to women that really need them as my next post will show.
Imagine having just given birth and your breasts mega swollen with milk not being able to afford to buy or get a good supportive bra.
Imagine having gianormous boobs and not being able to afford to buy 1 bra.
This is reality for women in fiji and other pacific countries.

All they want is you unwanted bras. In Australia there are many centres you can drop them off for free. But i think its such a worthwhile charity i just posted 8 of my old bras as i had some huge maternity ones as i just have had a baby.

Although i paid myself it only cost me £9.07 to send 8 bras that may of well just be thrown in the bin. I could of posted overland for about £4.50 but they would of taken 56 days to get there.
They dont mind what condition bras are in as they endeavour to repair them or make good another bra with the spare bits. Some new mums have to use old nappies to support their breasts.

They most need size 18 e/f/g or bigger which is UK size 40 dd+
But all bras are gladly received

Bras to let Breeze under Breasts

Welcome to the home of the Uplift Project

Thank you to the thousands of women who have donated second hand bras. Every bra counts, particularly to the woman who receives it.

http://www.upliftbras.org/images/Gerua_Provinces_womens_choir_main.jpg[/CENTER]

We started in Fiji:

Disadvantaged Fijians get much of their clothing from second hand Australian clothes shops. Bras are rare in these shops, particularly in sizes to suit the indigenous Fijian build. A new bra costs $40, and wages range from $1.50- $4.50/hour, for the indigenous people who have jobs.

In heat and humidity, rashes, fungal/thrush infections and abscesses (intertrigo) occur between the breast and the chest wall. Bras will help by allowing air circulation. Nursing mums everywhere leak, and bras allow the dignity of a dry shirt, and the comfort of support. A thrush rash on a mother's skin may spread to her baby's mouth, and then back into the breast itself, a very painful infection. In some regions the lack of a bra is a badge of poverty, and women appreciate the common dignity of wearing one, particularly to church, business or social occasions.

Since 2005, Uplift, through Rotary Australia World Community Service, has sent bras through secure channels, making sure they get to the women who need them without compromising their dignity.

10,600 second hand bras were sent to Fiji to January 2008. Big donations from Intimo and Fayreform in April 2008 provided 33,000 more. To September 2008 Uplift has sent 45,000 bras, and has 40,000 more going shortly.

And we've spread:

The bra situation is similar in a number of Pacific countries. Uplift now also ships bras to Vanuatu, Tonga, and PNG. Cook Islands are next. We've spread at the donor end too. Uplift has coordinators in all Australian states and the ACT, and in NZ. We also have coordinators in Australia for each country receiving bras.

Uplift sends bras only where they are requested. We supply primarily to women's associations for distribution and fitting. We ship only in biodegradable packaging, and aim not to compete with local businesses.

SO please send us your unloved bras! The most needed are:

Sorts bras, for farm work

Sizes 18+, all types

Nursing bras, for leakage management and support

but all second-hand bras are welcome, as these usually do not attract import duty. New bras may also be taken into some countries.

Often the bra received through Uplift will be the only bra a particular woman owns

I posted direct to fiji to save the charity costs.

They will be sending for at least the next 3 years, so surface mail is fine.

My local hospital collects them, so could save postage by checking whether your local hospital will take them.

Exellent Diva thanks I have several (sadly no maternity ones) but still some large one. I struggled to find a maternity bra so my heart goes out to these women it really does. For the sake of a few quid they can have some of mine.

Maternity are huge bonus. I was the same i struggled to get a supportive maternity bra i eventually got some by a brand called anita on figleaves wasnt really big enuff for my bazookas but was supportive the mothercare ones sucked.

As you may be able to tell by the pictute the big boned ladies and i think its only australia/new zealand that currently donates. As UK always tends to help african nations.
But as this thread shows i think the british ladies are more cuddly than our aussie cousins need the padding for the GREAT!!!! british weather

So although any bra any size is fantastic. If you like me are bigger than 40 dd they would bite ya hand off four your cast offs
