I know I've asked this before, but i just haven't had the time to look into it, or try it for myself.

Would like to make a gallery of images within a small website (and only one 1 of the pages)

What is the best current lightbox (or similar) software/java to use?

Many thanks in advance

I use fancybox with jQuery

http://fancybox.net/

Mouse wheel support, various built in title locations and styles. It's pretty hot.

shall be interested to see what people come up with in this thread, iv got fancy boxon my website(i think), but i want to put a gallery in where you can scroll the thumbnails if there's more than what fits in the space, and i want to be able to put a few lines of text/description next to/under the full image.
using dreamweaver though (as its a uni project) so no idea whether this is possible

Tatemze... Drop me your link, would like to see what its like

I need to add a line or 2 of text to each image (be in over the image, or outside the box).. not sure which is best/do-able

BTW, if you've got a windows server and an SQL setup of some kind and want to play, have a look at the free version of Kentico CMS - http://www.kentico.com Awesomely powerful for all manor of things.

its not live, im in my final year graphics degree and we all have to have an website hosted by the college. its basically just thumbnail squares next to each other, when you click on them they open with a light grey box around them with a rounded rectangle underneath with a title.

to be honest, im not really sure what im doing, so may not be using it to its full potential

a dont ! lol but thanks! I may be PM-ing you later Vib! Be Warned now lol - drop me your website link so I can see what fancybox looks like mate

I take it you still need to display images on the actual webpage, perhaps as thumbnail size, but then when clicked on, it opens a light box effect?

I just use this...

http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/

Quite easy to set up once you get the hang of the code.

Example:
http://browni.com/index.php?p=1_7_Landscapes

I've still to mess with the gallery but to be honest I haven't much motivation at the mo (resize thumbnails, get rid of borders upload sets of photos etc)...

Never seen that before, nice find...

Gives me an idea for totally redesigning the site based around that. Cheers.

Just look at the code, you'll start to realise what functions are available to play with. Easier said then done, but if you study it, it'll start to sink in.

I'm playing at the mo

Already found the YouTube vid handles well...

JQuery looking good. Liking the Mobile as well, can't think I'd need to use that though (nothing to gain).
