Superb stuff. Anything that stops Sturgeon from spouting her endless nonsense gets a thumbs up from me. Not voted Tory in over a decade but the Prime Minister gets my vote.

Should be great news imo but will more than likely be terrible.
Just a shame everyone is so blinded by Tory love they will inadvertadley vote to get 5 more years of shafting.
Tories are just a well run marketing team - they know what people want to hear but will then do the opposite - believe it at your own peril.
Tax cuts for high earners, corporation tax cuts, cuts to the NHS, grammar schools for upper middle class parents (not a bad thing actually) and reduced workers rights.
But you'll see low-skilled workers who are 'just about managing' vote for them in droves because of The Sun and Mail telling them to.
You hit the nail on the head with a rocket launcher with that.
People will disregard it as it is you who has said it but that is exactly what will happen if the Tories get in again.
No surprise the Tories got back in power once The Sun et al switch to backing them pre-Cameron. The JAMs are literally pawns for the elite playing chess.
Forget about them. Let them vote against their own interests in the belief that reducing immigration with magically increase their wages.
Let them believe that fewer Eastern Europeans will fix the housing shortage.
Let them dream of a future with hospital beds and school places are in abundance across the land.
If they don't realise they've been conned then they deserve everything coming their way.
"Forget about them. Let them vote against their own interests in the belief that reducing immigration with[sic] magically increase their wages."
"Labour heartlands are the areas where... migrants undercut local workers."

I think you're contradicting yourself here ;)
Only if you think that reducing immigration will mean wages increase. They won't.
To remain competitive companies will have to pay the same wages they have been, perhaps even lower. Fortunately I expect the Tories to make this possible, or jobs will simply move overseas.
Globalisation isn't a genie that one can simply place back in the bottle.
There's that linear thinking again.

Good to hear you're not still bitter.
People have voted to do a lot of damage to this country. I could let it annoy me or I could love at it from afar.
Seeing Brexiters disproportionately impacted by the impending economic downturn will be a fine balance of irony and tragedy. Shares in Butterkist will soar. X)
I was convinced exactly the same would happen when New Labour were elected to Government in 1997. For the first 2-3 years I thought maybe I had made a mistake to be so pessimistic, but those doubts quickly passed. Had to wait a few more years though for those fears to be realised and for the vast majority of other people to open their eyes. Funnily enough, I have the completely opposite outlook now. There are some maor obstacles to overcome, but I think the UK will eventually come out really well.
That's not to say that people like you might not, however, but that would just be a bonus.
And there's our different outlooks summed up. You think the country needs to improve, I think the country has been running smoothly for the last couple of decades. We've had this discussion many times before but I'm at a point where I'm happy to see this country really take the hammering it deserves. So long as London and certain other cities are ok, I would quite happily see the rest rot.

There's something very wrong with you. I presume you're English. That's the most awful thing I have ever heard a fellow countryman say about England/UK. Perhaps you could learn how to conduct yourself in a nicer manner.

She is giving Corbyn what he wants and has been moaning about for months, and it makes sense as we need a stable 5 year government for Brexit negotiations. At least this snap decision will negate a year of political bull/distration from brexit and debates, it limits it to a couple of months.

Oh well. We all know what will happen here.
Shrewd move by May. Labour are in turmoil and UKIP are done. Things could be different in 2020 so strike now.

It will be interesting to see if either Labour of LibDems fight the election by stating they will hold yet another Referendum, all in the hope of avoiding complete annihilation.

We live in a labour heartland where everyone moans about labour but they still would still vote a muppet in if they had a labour badge and trust me they have before we will get the same again this time but you can see this being a landslide this time round and Corbyn probably won't resign afterwards as he thinks he is what the Labour Party wants. The reality is this could kill them off for a very long time.

Well if remoaners are true to their beliefs the lib dems should pick up 17 million votes .., reverse Brexit is their only policy .

Poll this morning showed only 1 in 5 people want another referendum / to stop Brexit. It is clear now that most Remainers want to get on with it. With all the positive economic data of the past 10 months since the referendum Project Fear has been proved to be a lie, long live Project Hope.

Most Remainers want to get on with it. It is only the likes of Dim Farron that are pushing against it and he is only doing it to cultivate votes amongst hardcare remain voters. Mind you, he can't do any worse than his predecessor.

It had to be done, because at the first report of bad news regarding trade deals during the negotiations , and the whole Brexit argument would be raised again and again .

Same as where I live, they would vote for a chimp wearing a red tie, due to being force fed a diet of "we always vote labour" and "we hate thatcher". Shame that haven't twigged that the Labour party doesn't represent them any more.

RIP the once proud Labour Party.

It's the right decision. Labour are a joke, UKIP are finished and I'm not sure Farron is viable.

Tories should get a landslide. What this will do is reopen the divisions in this country and it highlights he rather shambolic state of British politics at the moment.

What is good is that it will mean Corbyn is gone within six months rather than in 2020. If Labour make the right choice and put in Jarvis, David Miliband or some other centre-left choice then we may have an effective opposition during the Brexit negotiations.

May stands a better chance of winning an election now than she does after any deal is concluded though.

This is akin to Apollo Creed fighting some chump off the street.

This won't make her Hard brexit stance anymore credible, it wont justify any of her actions.

I have been a voter of the Tories in the past but this is a massive turn off for me, publically she stated she wouldn't call a snap election, her reasons are flawed and its at the worst time, she is calling it now before fall out from any of her decisions.

This could end labour and force a real and proper split in the party, should also be the end of UKIP, her hard brexit stance should attract most of the UKIP support. (I'll take that silver lining)

Will we actually have a proper second party or a couple very weak parties miles behind.

It'll be a GE like no other that's for sure, she will be the most unpopular PM of modern times but will win by an enormous landslide...

Is anyone truly happy that a GE is being called?

No such thing as Labour heartlands - their so-called heartlands have been deserting them in droves - haven't you noticed them losing the last two elections?
They once called the north Labour heartlands, they once called Scotland a Labour heartland - come to think of it they once called Scotland a unionist heartland.
The election has got little to do with muppets and heartlands, and everything to do with who's the best at telling lies (reluctantly).

Labour heartlands are the areas where jobs have been shipped overseas and migrants undercut local workers. Ergo the voters resent immigrants and the EU (actually globalisation) and shift to populist/nativist parties. The same happened in the rust belt in the States.

Labour can't win relying on those voters.

Brexiters and Tories should be happy. Personally I think the whole thing is rather funny. It's like watching a clown car crash in slow motion.

Turnout should be rather low and the Tories should get a huge number of seats.
